Is treated lumber ok and mixed wood shavings?

Is it ok to use treated lumber inside the coop (probably seems a silly question but a treated pen made my rabbit sick)? And any ideas if mixed wood shavings from a local college's wood shop are ok? Probably a mixed bag of wood only. Thanks!

When can I intro new peeps to my barred hen?

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I'll keep these separate from the adult hen when they come to us. There will be about 3. Perhaps in the future I can check into our hen adopting some chicks of her own. I'll ask the folks at the poultry center how they do it.

    Dog Breed Experience Poll/Database

I had an Austrailian Shep x Border Collie for 13 years. She was a visitation and therapy dog and worked with guinea pigs, chickens, rabbits, hamsters, birds, cats, etc. NEVER had a problem with her. I believe her prey drive was focused towards frisbees and we always worked hard to teach her to...

WV cannot have a chicken show.

Does this mean that when I go to visit my brother's farm in WV this summer that we cannot bring our pet hen? Or is it just restricted to showing?

When can I intro new peeps to my barred hen?

When we went to pick up the eggs, we saw a hen who had "adopted" several types of chicks. Does this mean that the hen raised them from eggs, versus adopting chicks? My hen lays about every other day. Could she potentially hatch the eggs? They are in the incubator at school now. She has always...

Current set up not working- bad odor and LOTS 'o flies

Geesh, I did write a confusing synopsis. Sorry. Let me try to clarify. 1. I have 2 hens in a four foot long wire cage with a metal roof. The cage sits about 1.5 inches up off the ground. 2. Their cage is inside of our dog pen which is about 25ft by 25 ft (I had them outside of the dog pen...

New to BYC...bedazzled by the coop & tractor options

Hi, I'm near the sc, ga, nc border. Hot, dry, wet, and sometimes snow! I have my 2 chickens in a large wire rabbit cage with a temporary metal roof, the cage sits about 2 inches above ground and I have had to move them several times already as the poop is stinking and attracting flies. One hen...

New to BYC...bedazzled by the coop & tractor options

Hello, I'm new to owning chickens and am completely taken aback by all of the wonderful styles of coops and tractors. I think we need something fairly quickly. so I'm thinking a tractor to begin with, then after the summer we can go for a coop. We hope to make a coop/shed combo. I'm excited to...
