Unfortunately, that list is like a needle in a haystack. There is no indication of what breeds are the focus for each breeder. After contacting 26 farms/breeders I gave up.
Well, so far, no luck. Lots of folk stepping away due to health and age. One person has gone stark raving crazy. One has made some promises but we'll have to see how that unfolds. 😥
I have some amazing genetics but my hens are not laying yet. I am hoping they start soon. I am working on getting a fresh infusion of Urch blood to start again.
I am based in Colorado.
I have been on a 4 year quest for more Black Javas ever since Garfield Farms and Chicago MSI bailed on the Javas during COVID.
I had two clans but age and unexpected predation really took its toll. If I am able to supplement my current bloodline I will do my best to make them available to folk...
That is super helpful information. Thank you!
I am making progress in my relentless search. I'm compiling quite a list for those who are interested in Javas. I will check with the respective contacts firsts and then publish here. Most of the folk who are active right now are fairly far east...
They do. I won't comment any further than to say it hasn't personally worked out for me. It may for others. Glenn is awesome at what he does but we've struggled with communication.
Garfield Farm/MSI have been a big disappointment. They threw in the towel during COVID and pretty much shut everything down. Tim Christakos at MSI was let go and nobody at Garfield Farm will respond to my calls and emails. Most of the old timers involved with Javas at Garfield during the...
Much obliged! I made my way though the list 18 months ago and got little or no responses. A few mentioned Jim Ward in Ohio but I don't think he is active any more. At least commercially.
I'll have another go at the list to see if anything shakes out. I'm at a crossroads of either getting...
I'm pretty good with Google but thank you for the link. McConnell's does not ship and they are in Atlanta - which is a very long way from me. If I find anything I will post back here.
I know this is an old post but based on my correspondence with breeders and conservancy groups around the country, backyard flocksters are keeping many of the rare and endangered breeds from going extinct. That should count for something in my book.
I have a clan of Black Javas which I originally received from Garfield Farms/Chicago Museum of Science before they allowed the circumstances around COVID to kill off the breed and their involvement in propagation (long story for a another day - or a blog post).
I am very interested in...
I had the same issue with some chicks from Sandhill. First, I didn't realize there was a 25 chick limit to prevent getting too cool. Second, I had no idea the PO would not deliver - just hold them. By the time I got there all were dead but 2 and those died later in the day. I makes me sick...
