There is an abandoned rooster across the busy road we live on and I've been brainstorming how to catch him.
He's been wandering around a wooded area but mostly around this little pond next to an eletctrical station. There is a driveway there so it would be easy to set up a little spot to catch...
This is a different hen, the last hen passed away and her symptoms were much more severe and acute... and no new chickens... can respiratory illnesses be a long term thing?
So I don’t weigh my chooks on a regular basis, I weighed her several years ago and she was almost 5lbs, she’s gotta be less than 4 now, she’s really light. She Completely stopped laying last year and was only laying maybe 1 egg every other month before that. She also has some other symptoms, a...
We’ve had birds that look bad but usually it was an egg stuck inside and they recovered. I think the biggest difference I noticed with this hen was her breathing really hard ;(
As my hens get older (we keep them as pets so we don’t mind them not laying) I get increasingly nervous about them passing away, and why, and should I cull? Cause I won’t know what’s wrong or how bad it is...
I’m not sure if I’m comfortable yet doing an autopsy but maybe if I know the common...
Sorry I dropped off BYC for a while.
At this point I don't even know if my girl(sold to me as a cream brabanter) is a mix, or just pure polish. Love her anyway ♡
I will probably go the direction of blue eggs in the future but I still love the look of the brabanter. If they're as goofy as my...
She has been incredibly healthy this whole time so I never really paid much attention to her often misshappen eggs. No eye/nose discharge, normal poop, normal eating/drinking. She used to, if not still does lay double yolks, along with broken and mended/body checked eggs, wrinkled/corrigated...
I feel I need to update. The place I got her from is now selling gold sexlink/leghorn mixes. That isn't what they told me, but it seems likely that is what she is. I have no idea what a sexlink temperment is like but she has classic leghorn flightiness.. it must be a strong trait.
Also late to the molting topic but I feel I've gathered enough feathers to make a new chicken! I was thinking maybe I could stuff a pillow if I took off the quills...?
Had the Dish salesmen at my door the other day(they dug my chickens). It really seemed like an awesome deal but literally no one I know has Dish... my husband remembers people saying the internet was slow but we have Comcast now and our internet is slow now so... any one have any thoughts on...
Haveyou guys been to Crossroads vet? I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware there were Vets out there that have a lot of experience treating chickens. One of my hens needed surgery and there was a lot of compassion by the techs. They raided the staff fridge for grapes for my hen after her...
I would try water first but if its oil that might not work. Baby shampoo is probably a good bet, I used it on my chicken butts before. I am worried a blow drier might freak out my babies but Ive seen some chickens in videos that seem to love it. At least try to dry it with a towel so it fluffs...
