    Dead chicken this morning

When I opened up the coop this morning I had a dead chicken. About two weeks ago I got two new (for me) chickens from a good friend. The are standard size and about 6 months old. One is laying, the other is not. I know the conditions the chicken came from (very well cared for) so I wasn't...

    Muddy Outside run

I had the same problem, especially this spring with all the rain. I put about 2-3 inches of sand in when it was reasonably dry and no more mud. Easy to clean. Just shovel sand through a strainer and throw out the poop that is trapped.

    food and water

I keep a smaller feed and water supply in the coop so if I sleep in or the weather is really bad the girls still have easy access. Only down side is you have to make sure you don't have a water leak or spill - I use a well secured bucket with nipples.

    Panning for poop

Will this work with construction sand or DG? Or only with fine grained sand? Wondering how big the holes are.

Mucky, Muddy, Stinky Run after Torrential Rains

I'm having the same problem with muck that isn't drying out. Currently mine is just dirt which I normally can rake up the majority of the poop and throw it in the compost bin. If you use DG or sand for the floor how do you clean the poop out?

How do I start my girls free ranging

My four girls love freeze dried meal worm. So I save them for when I want to put them back in the run. I shake the bag and they run/fly over and line up at the door waiting for me to throw a handful in the run. Throw the meal worms in and then I just close the door. Took a few days to train...
