    Raising and caring for ducklings

Back to 4 duckies. The littlest one we just got didn't make it. We're researching C.O.D. The others are getting big quick, especially the Mascovies.

    Raising and caring for ducklings

Oh yes, pics. I wanted to video them watching YouTube on my kindle and their first swim with me, but hubby had the cam at my mother's. I've got it now. I'll work on getting some good ones.

    Raising and caring for ducklings

My mother has a pond in the back behind her yard. Her cats caught two of them. The other two are the only survivors from a batch born in a goat barn. Plan? It was to temporarily foster them, but now they can't go back. They'd never make it. I guess I'm a duck farm now.

    Raising and caring for ducklings

I've got these little rescued ducks, anywhere between 2 and 3 weeks old, I'm now thinking. Up until now, I've been this scary human that holds them captive while taking care of them. Even though still frightened, the Muscovy ducklings came around pretty quick, but the other two have been a bit...

    Home for abandoned duckling

If you have facebook, a lot of animal lovers do the rubbing elbows thing there. There are farmers, rescuers, and park workers that all join up. As a matter of fact, there is a fairly big water fowl sanctuary out there somewhere. If I were anywhere near you, I'd take your Mallard to add to the 4...

    Aquaponics

Are your minnows outside? :) Around here, any number of things would snack on those if they weren't properly covered (raccoons, cats, chickens, skunks). I think they eat each other too.

Hey, that is a good design. I was envisioning something similar. I jumped back on here to share a video I found. What do you think of this filter? Would it do the trick ya think?

    Aquaponics

I'm trying to come up with a plan to do aquaponics using a duck pool instead of one for fish. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep the system balance without adding things that would interfere with the ducks' health?

A little help!! Im a newbie

I love dandilions and encourage them to grow in the soft soil so I can use the roots for tea and the leaves for salad. You are not wierd. Me? I might be getting more wierd by the year Anyway, if I happen upon the specific nutrient profile of duckweed, I'll put it up somewhere.

A little help!! Im a newbie

You're welcome, but I'm not entirely sure it has what they need there. I just know it is high in protien and is used and a high protien feed for animal, fowls, and humans. If you get a small little handful of it, it will grow like crazy in calm water. It is the perfect way to clean toxic dirty...

A little help!! Im a newbie

Isn't duckweed full of vitamin B3? Ducks can and do eat duckweed. As a matter of fact, my husband was supposed to fetch some from my mothers pond and hasn't yet :/

    Anybody Keep Wood Ducks Here?

I feel I'm having this imprinting experience myself with a wood duck I recieved last night. Its either extremely trusting or unbelievably brave. The two behaviors that resembled his breed are --> trying to push and dig at my sweatered arms, as if making a nest much like a rabbit makes its hole...
