My brooder has a plywood floor, they could just walk on the wood but its easier to rake the wood shavings out than to scrape the droppings off the wood.
I have a very bright flashlight that i candle with, just get in a dark room and stand the flashlight on its end. I hold the egg with one hand and use the other hand to seal the light around the egg. quick andd easy to get the eggs done and back in the incubator
Texas a&m are coturnix quail so I'm guessing they eat about the same amount. I've raised them before but I've always just kept the feeders full, never really put much thought into how much each one eats
My pen is 10ft by 10ft 7ft tall with pine mulch for bedding. i used to use blasting sand for bedding but the place i was getting it stopped blasting and painting so i had to go out of pocket for the mulch. its actually cleaner. My coturnix are more runners than flyers so no head boinking for...
Incubating quail eggs isn't really as hard as some folks make it out to be. The hardest part of raising quail in my opinion is brooding chicks. I like incubating eggs, got some in the incubator now that are sposed to hatch next week and i haven't a clue what I'm gonna do with them. If you were...
I have my bobwhites in the same pen with my coturnix, the bobs are more aggressive towards each other than with the coturnix but its not too bad. They just puff up and chase each other, not really a lot of fighting
How old are the chicks? If they are feathering out they will clean and preen their own feathers, if they are only a few days old you may could just wipe them down with a warm wet towel
They are the same bird. jumbo, brown pharoah, they are all coturnix quail. Pharoah quail is just another name for the coturnix, jumbo are just coturnix that are bred for bigger bodied birds
The jumbo and regular size coturnix are the same bird, only difference is size. So really that would just be whatever you wanted to raise. The jumbo are normally raised for dual purpose, meat and eggs. If your not planning on eating them you can get the normal coturnix, they are egg laying...
Personally i prefer the bobwhites, they are a prettier bird and i love listening to them call every morning. I have bobwhites and coturnix now, if you can raise bobwhites you can easily raise coturnix they are the perfect beginner bird. They hatch in 18 days and in 8 weeks your getting eggs from...
With bobwhites, you may need a permit to sell them as they are a wild game bird in many states. Coturnix quail on the other hand are not, and you get a faster turnaround on your investment because they mature in about 8 weeks vs 23 weeks with bobwhites. I keep a few bobwhites but i do it because...
