We built this coop with a few modifications, including extending the area of the run and adding external nest boxes. Thanks for the great plan to get us through the basics. It looks great!
Daethen, do you have your receipt from the last tree? Usually those things are warrantied for a year. But I bet the pear trees we have that the deer ate the bark off wouldn't be covered LOL
I have no advice about introducing the chicks to the flock but I also do the wire dog crate and find it...
Well, she was very feisty when I went out this time. She fought me tooth and nail on getting her beak dipped for water- so I'll take that as a good sign for now. I'm still not going to be surprised if she doesn't make it, though.
I'm no stranger to nursing animals back to health. My rabbits...
Well, I dunked her beak in the water about 10 times to get her going, and she started drinking on her own- so that's a good start. When she would walk away, I would put her back by the water and she would drink some more. I spent probably a half hour by them and by the time I left she was...
Thanks all for the advice. Will pick up some electrolytes today. I'll let her live out her life.
How often should I be dipping her beak? She's out in the barn so we are out a couple times a day but I can go out more if necessary.
Jim,
Good question. I can't seem to figure it out.
I have a question for all of you. I got 7 hatchery chicks on Wednesday. One has been very lethargic- she has been eating if you put the food down on the ground in front of her, but doesn't really move around like the others. If you pick...
I'm with all of you, it's *very* wet here. It was snowing here today; I'm sick of the cold and ready for spring to really get started. My husband and I remodeled our upstairs bathroom this winter; pics of before/after are attached. It was a good project. We kept the floor, toilet, and...
Hello all,
Back from a long hiatus. Hope all are well- will be keeping up for a while at least, hopefully!
Here's a picture of the birds in the yard Tuesday. They are as happy as I am that the snow is gone!
They are barnyard mixes. We have a black Australorp rooster and Australorp, silver laced Wyandotte, and Easter Egger hens. So really they could be any of those. They all look the same at the moment; we will see what happens when they feather out!
We'll see about the fifth chick. I am trying...
Thanks! All four that had previously pipped are now out of the shell. The fifth egg is also now pipped. The two oldest have been eating and drinking, and the two youngest look like they couldn't be more upset at the world lol. One seems weaker than the other but they are both stumbling...
I took the third out of the shell now- very little veining left. The fourth still has veining. The fifth is still peeping but no pip. The one I just took out seems very weak, but maybe with rest will perk up.
