I'm new to this but also have Rhode Island Reds. They started laying around 5 to 5.5 months regularly in August and totally stopped in mid-Oct.Don't know why.I have 3 and at the time I was getting 2 and sometimes 3 eggs a day.Hope this helps.
Thanks. He was evil at first waiting behind a tree or my truck to unleash his attack after my arrival home. After hand feeding him he eventually chilled a bit....The hawk was more interested in escape after the kill.I came home to find the hawk still trapped in the cage. There were many feathers...
I wish I could respond more about ole roaster Cogburn but he was killed by a hawk while still in his cage. How that hawk got in there I don't know.Half the size of Cogburn but still killed him.Cogburn was a fighter and is missed. My four hens were traumatized for days after. The hawk was stuck in...
This Roaster I call Roaster Cogburn, won't dare let you touch him. When he was a chick,he stood out from the rest in that he was timid. He is wild now.He too attacked from the rear the back of my legs. Then he changed tactics to frontal assault. He always waits to attack when your hands are full of...

Been seeing a similar ordeal with my 3 hens.Hatched in March 2015.Started laying 2 or 3 eggs a day in late August and in early October just stopped laying period.Their organic feed ain't cheap. What's going on here? These Rhode Island reds are supposed to be hardy. Now at late November and still no...
I have 5 hens and only one roaster thank god. This guy is a real basturd.Cute when he was a chick, but when he grew older,I had to decide his fate fast.He would for no apparent reason attack me while running loose in the yard.I never treated him harsh. He all of a sudden started coming after...
I too live in central NC the Uwharrie NF and because of the new threat of bear and other teethy critters I rarely let my chickens roam far.Still have all 5 and let them cut up in the woods but lock them up tight just after 8pm.Hate to hear about that.Thats my worst fear living in these dense...
