So, I was a little unsure about using the eye drops I have because I found out they are a steroid, but Penelope was extra well behaved for me to put them in her eye. Her eye looked pretty creepy... cloudy and with some stringy thing that I'm certain isn't normal... and the eye seemed to be below...
Thank you so much for the reply. That makes me feel better. I did find some water soluble antibiotics for animal use that we had in the cupboard. Does anybody know if Duramycin-10 is ok to give ducks? (and are her eggs safe to eat if she is consuming antibiotics/if not, how long after can they...
My duck Penelope is living indoors, at least for the cold weather. She has always gotten along with the cats just fine. One of them ignores her, the other actually really likes her, and the third cat has always been... weird and antisocial and spontaneously mean. Lately Penelope and her cat...
We had about 15 eggs in there and only three hatched. One of them had a deformed bill and couldn't breathe. The other needed help getting out but had some sort of serious problem - odd eyes and involuntary leg spasms - and didn't last long. Somebody was looking after these eggs and I don't think...
Ok, I don't know why the images don't seem to be working...

I know the picture is pretty poor quality, but I not ready to go outside yet today.
Here's a better picture, but the color is not accurate. Any name ideas? This one is the only survivor of 3 so far, has white wing tips, a funky scab/bump on the nose, and had a swollen tight eye last night...
We lost the second one shortly after I posted. :( There was definitely something wrong. Both eyes were pretty weird and the legs spasmed if I didn't hold them still. I had one hatch last year like that and it didn't last a day. So sad.But we are left with one pretty lively duckling and I'm...
I just helped the last duck out. There was no membrane still attached or anything and there was poop in the egg, which was pretty yucky. I basically just cut the egg off and rinsed the duckling with warm water and now they're both drying in the incubator. This last duckling has one blind eye...
Ok, here's an update:
One of them didn't make it. I think there was a bit of membrane stuck over a nostril because I noticed him/her seemed to be breathing open-mouthed. I don't know why I didn't step in at that point and now I feel awful because when I checked again the little one had passed...
Thanks! that's good to know. I think all of my other self-hatched ducks took less than a day to hatch, so I was getting worried. But I'll keep an eye on these three and see what they look like tomorrow. I don't want to have to help them because I know it's good for them to get out themselves...
I hope it's ok if I post a duck hatching question here. It didn't seem to fit into the duck board.
I noticed three of the eggs we have in the incubator started hatching yesterday. One had a small hole in the egg, the other had a smaller hole, and the other was barely cracked. Today I can see...
Awww, I'm sure little Dave would be flattered! I wish she was still around... I love all of my ducks, but I have to say she was always my favorite. lol
These ducks are no longer with us, but I still think they were pretty adorable. :)
