Just wanted to drop in and let you guys know that she is completely better. I kept periodically exercising that leg hoping that a tendon would slip back in or some miracle would happen. One night I heard a loud pop when I was exercising her leg and two days later I can't find her. I can't...
Thanks again. I'm checking the sight you sent me and keeping a close eye on the chick. Do you guys think this warrants seperating her? She doesn't seem to be getting picked on too badly (no more than others). She seems happy and healthy and is getting easily from food to water.
Thanks so much for the help and thanks for your speed of response. I checked her elbow and I sure can't tell if there is a tendon out of place. I'm try and get in touch with the person from that link. Thanks for that, it was very helpful.
Thanks again

Thanks for the welcome. I'm having trouble getting pictures of it that could show you, video would work better; but I don't know if I'm technically inclined enough. haha Her three toes appear normal and are not curled. She kinda uses her foot as a cane at times, but the bottom from the...
I don't know if any of you remember me, but I had dying chickens and was here sucking your brains for a while. I ordered (from a hatchery this time) more chicks. I ordered from Murray McMurray the 25 mixed large brown egg layers, 1 rare mystery chick, and 10 Rhode Island Reds. The arrived...
Thanks so much, again, guys. Still trying to pen the only avian vet down about results and necropsy stuff. Can you say arduous task? Between my oldest starting 1st grade and my 3rd have a vomit flu, geesh. I still have my 5 hens left over. They were 20 weeks old on Thursday and like...
Nathalie,
They did tons of tests, some locally and others they sent off. I believe the report I have is all the tests reported together. I will definitely speak with him, as I still feel I don't have real answers, per se.
Necropsy interpretive summary

Sorry dlhunicorn
I'll go look up aflatoxin but on the link it looks like it's for avian influenza. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Thanks. I'll check this out.

I saw it, so you're saying it might have been avian influenza but the descriptions would be about the same? Sorry, just clarifying so I can research. Thanks
Thanks Nathalie. Alright, now the tough question....since things aren't really clear about what is exactly causing this but I'm still losing birds about every 10 days would it be more humane to end it for these last 5 hens? The fatty liver makes me wonder if they aren't suffering a little...
Jenski,
Thanks alot for making me feel like I'm not bugging you guys with this stuff. I read the article. I don't "think" I qualify. I will occassionally take a couple heals out to the group and scatter it around. They are on a starter grower feed 18% crude protein. They will be 20 weeks...
Yep, round worms which the doc said weren't of a high load and fatty liver disease which I would assume is what killed them. They were on starter grower with some occasional bread or garden trimmings. The roosters were twice the size of the hens and none of them died. So confused??? I can't...
OK Nathalie and anyone else that is genius level on chickens. haha I have path reports, but haven't been able to sink up with the doc to go over them. I lost another hen today. After culling my roosters and sacrificing the two to the lab, and losing two more of the mystery illness, I'm down...
Oh Sally, that's a whole nother thread. haha We had the chickens sexed by the seller and he was WRONG. Buyer beware. haha We were supposed to have 2 roosters in the 27 birds we purchased. We ended up with at least 6. We've lost 14 birds to a mystery illness and two more I sacrificed to...
Hi all,
I'm new to chickens and have been having a heck of a time, but have been over on the Emergencies forum trying to figure things out. I have four big roosters and 7 hens. They are almost 18 weeks old. I have one hen that has some paralysis on one side. She has always gotten around...
Thanks all. I'm still awaiting results and will post when I get them. I appreciate all the advice, especially Nathalie. You've been there since the beginning and our climates seem very similar. Here's to hoping for no more losses and great test results.
Wow, maybe that solves the mystery as to why my husband's grandmother raised chickens on a "dirt" floor with no bedding and never lost one. The property we are on is all sand. You can dump the chickens water over and it immediately sinks into the ground, barely even puddles. Maybe I should...
