Definitely the nose, as the mouth/lips had no blood on them, except for what had run down onto them. It has since stopped and she is resting. She had all 7 kits on the wire instead of in the nesting box, but luckily, we were there to put them into the box. I have a heat lamp keeping them warm...
I have a NZW doe that just kindled with 7 kits. But she's got blood coming out her nose! This is our first time breeding our rabbits. Surely, this can't be normal! Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks!
I have a 7 week old jumbo brown hen that appears to have a prolapse. I did get an egg from that cage today, so I suspect it came from her. Poor thing must have had a heck of a time with it. It there any hope? Or should I simply put her out of her misery?
Thanks.
Here's what I have done, and my birds waste very very little feed. I took a 3" PVC pipe, and cut it into 15" lengths. I used a 2" hole saw to drill 5 holes for the birds to stick their heads in to feed. I capped the ends with 'test caps' from Lowes (under $1 each). I then attached a small block...
I'll second the motion on 'quailkingjosh'. Top notch.
But since the subject heading is 'Texas A&M, I have a question. Is vent sexing the only way to tell the sex of an A&M?
Well, the results are in. I used the wooden egg holders for turning, then removed the eggs for lockdown on day 14. I had 25 quail hatch (most on day 17) out of 52 (shipped) eggs. I'd call it a success. I'll be using them again.
I just had one momma rabbit finally kindle after 37 days (most litters are born at 31 days)....... to one stillborn kit. She proceeded to eat it (at least most of it until I intervened).
The wood is just a $3 2x4 from Lowes, probably pine. The wooden egg holders are now in use in my incubator. The first 24 hrs, I did not add any water to the bator and the humidity was 36%. This morning I added some water and the humidity came up to 43%. So far, I'm pretty pleased. It only...
I made these wooden egg turners today. Just lay the whole thing over from side to side to turn up to 10 eggs at once. This should cut down on the amount of time I have the bator open.
I spoke to Robby today. He was very helpful, but explained that he could not ship for several weeks. By that time, (2nd-3rd week in Aug), it would be too hot to ship anything but overnight, and still expect reasonable success. I chose not order at this time. He did give me the name of someone...
I was going to order some eggs from JMF. I see on the website, that 'step 2' is 'place your order for eggs and shippers'. Do I need to order/pay for the shippers separately that are used to send MY eggs??? Thanks.
I lost a chick a few days ago. I'm not sure, but I think it was injured when they were startled real bad and I found it dead the next morning. That leaves 23 remaining and today, they're 10 day old. Time to order the next batch of eggs!
CrowWing Native, I am still developing my housing for adult quail. I have no adult quail at this time. I have 4 weeks to get it done. The plan is for them to live in a shed that I have outside. One inside wall of the shed will have wooden racks built that will hold the cages. The cages will...
