    Goose or Gander?

Well, the surest way to tell if you got a gander or goose is to see if the egg(s) are fertile, just incubate. If after two weeks candle the eggs and see if you got a complete set. Had an issue myself with sexing. I was absolutely certain my Toulouse gosling was male (Pooh is in photo below)...

Yup, when my my birds stated laying their eggs initially were either small or oddly shaped (mostly elongated). Twin yoked is rather rare but not unheard of. Here is a video of a double yoked egg hatching: In the video she does something that I thought you should NEVER do - assist in the...

Goose egg hatched under duck. (Pic Included)

I can attest to the egg switch-a-roo working but from the other way around. My sweet darling goose Phoebe (who passed on this winter after many months of being sick) had seen the Ducks in the flock brooding and so decided to brood herself. At that point there was no Gander, so I started...

Hey Fiddlehead, I'm also in the Western Mass area not far from you... Montague Center (work over in UMass). Since there's a beautiful trout stream behind my house I've been for a couple years raising Ducks and Geese (tried my hand at Guinea Fowls but those local Foxes really LOVED them just...

Quote: I have tried herding her to the pond and even carried her down to the water she just turns back and heads back to the pen. It's frustrating seeing little Drue sit by her side and look off at the other ducklings playing (or being pushed away from the pen water). You may be right I did...

Request Advice: Worried about my Phoebe

Thanks for the responses. Checked her legs, didn't seem damaged in anyway (she relaxed when I picked her up and didn't squirm or was in distressed when I searched her body). I got Phoebe last year and she is suppose to be about 9 yrs old. She was very active prior to the brooding. I use to let...

Actually if you follow the link's progression you will find that the duckling image is part of a er... Duckumentary? Rather cute... Little Miss Dewey. http://www.dewieduck.com/ I don't think Dewey is a Perkin or at least it is a hybrid. Cheers, JJ

    pics of juvenile pekins

Currently among my flock I've got two adult Perkins (WALL-E & EVE, they're 13 weeks), at one point I was also worried that their coats wouldn't change to white. But it seems that they did so subtlety that I didn't notice exactly when it happened. They are now have quite fine white coats. Last...
