My goose will be 20 yrs old in May so she has learned a thing or two I guess. My water was not close by 5 or 6 ft I'm guessing. Also, my goose is a big mud dauber...I put the electric water bowl on a 3 ft square mat to stop her from putting mud in it but she is determined because she still can...
I only have one goose...she will be 20 yrs old in May, but she's still plenty lively. I have 4 chickens and a rooster and the goose. So I don't fill the feeder up very often, at all, which is why I like it so much. I lost two chickens to sour crop and I'm pretty sure that is why, because the...
laughs...I know that mine can carry dirt to the water...but darn it , I love this feeder, makes winter so much easier on me. What kind of bucket do you use? I could put out a bucket, maybe she would leave the feeder alone?
if it's the goose dribbling water inside.
It's right under the entrance where the birds stick their heads in. I just changed it a couple of weeks ago. I thought it might be rain leaking in somehow but we've not had any rain this time and I just emptied the feeder again and there's a molded...
Yes and sadly I didn't know enough to help her. I did get her crop flushed out, and got out a lot of grass, but when I ended her life today, a lot of sour liquid came out so she was far from fixed, when I thought her crop was empty.
Yeah I'm pretty sure I can do it again for a sick bird..which makes me feel good that I can do it. I was like an expectant father pacing the floor til I finally got up the nerve.
Thank you...your words also helped when I did the broomstick method today. I did make sure my feet were holding down the rebar and to pull hard enough but not yank her head off.
Thank you for holding my hand. I was terrified to do this, but she was almost dead when I did it today, so with your words in my head, I was able to stop her suffering. The first pull didn't work but the 2nd did, I could feel something tear loose. I had to use the drain in my basement to lay...
I have no stump and it's 20 degrees outside. My hens never get sick in the summer, it seems. I did shoot a rooster once...shooting is hands-off but I don't want to do that to my hen. The rooster had killed a hen and injured another, so I was mad at him. I bought this axe...
I have been able to massage her crop and get a lot of liquid out and there's lots of grass..but her crop just keeps filling up. I'm just shocked I'm able to do it on this one chicken and not the others. But she is not getting better. After seeing what's in her crop, in order to actually suck...
I have no help...so an axe is out of the question, although I bought one for this purpose. I definitely do not want to prolong the chicken's suffering.
Thank you..this is exactly the detail that I needed. The issue is I'm short...so will have to hold it closer to the body. But knowing to stretch out the bird is really helpful before giving the yank.
I'd like to know what you learned from messing up. I know this is an older post but hoping you are still around. I saw the broomstick method on youtube but I'm afraid I will mess it up.
Thanks..I bought a feeding tube although it's a bit long, it gets the job done. I just poke the tip slightly down her throat. But my chicken has no white patches...she has gooey saliva in her beak. This is her last chance, I hope it helps. Her crop was mushy this morning and she has had...
Yes she is...I just gave her some one-day Monistat cream. But she is barely holding on. If this doesn't do it..I see no hope for her. She's too weak now for me to even suck out the crop...but I did finally get the syringe.
