Egg Pictures, Few Questions about Color, and a Surprise

Interesting replies. I have a hybrid Red Ranger. She is two years old and her laying has slowed down. Yesterday I found an almost white egg from her. Right now she is my only one laying so I know it belongs to her. Her eggs have been beige. I noticed her earlobes have gotten white spots on...

    Week old chick not thriving

We have one doing the same. I have given her pieces of a cooked egg yolk and mixed the liquid from yogurt into her feed. Sometimes she just puts her face in the feed dish. We have now separated her so she doesnt get trampled from the others. Wish I had something helpful to add, but don't really.

    My Newest SILKIE Babies [pics]

I just got 4 chicks from someone who couldn't keep them. She got them from Tractor Supply and they told her they are Silkie Bantems. Only one of them has feathers on her feet. And she has 4 toes. Do they all have 5 toes? They are about 5 weeks old and are the same size as leghorns.

Weasels, foxes and coyotes oh my!

Just an FYI: When we started with our chicks two years ago we noticed a fox and a hawk near the coop right away. We read about leaving a radio on talk radio 24/7 so we set one up and never saw another fox or hawk nearby while they were in the coop. And as far as we can tell nothing has dug...

    Mystery

Just checking out this forum. I've lost two Leghorns this week. They were out free ranging around 7:30 AM and I heard some squawking and saw two chickens run by. Went looking for the 3rd one and found her down the hill in the brush with a large hole on her back. Didnt think it looked bad...

Moved Rooster out - now hens are fighting!

My biggest hen started bullying my small leghorn after I put her back in pen after releasing her from broody breaker. Its been about 5 days now and the leghorn won't come out of the coop. Is staying on a perch until I let her out. She stays out all day by herself bc she will stay close to pen...

How to Break a Broody Hen

I had a broody 15 mos old leghorn hen last week and was able to break her after two days. At first when she was introduced back into pen she bothered the other hens. Now the tide has turned and she is afraid to be in the pen because one of the Reds is chasing and pecking her. I have two leghorns...

    Run away chix

Great news. They came home to roost!!! I went down to coop about half hour before they roost and sat on my swing. My coop seemed so empty w/o my other three hens. I sat there reading and whispered a prayer that if they were alive they would find the way back. Then I heard their beautiful...

    Run away chix

Today while letting my 5 chix free range a two greyhounds ran into my yard totally unexpected. I was sitting right next to them. They all scattered but one was caught by dog. She was badly injured and we had to put her down. The other four flew/ran towards the woods. My two leghorns made it up...

    Pullet or cockerel??

I have three Red Rangers supposedly female. I got them at 5 days old and know they are about 9 weeks old. Ive watched some videos on how to determine if they are male or female and now I'm suspicious if maybe two of them are males. Of the three of them one has tail feathers that are different...
