MN wild Mallard with broken wing

    Unfortunately, yes.

MN wild Mallard with broken wing

Just an update. The duck has not returned. ☹ I have purchased some poultry feed supplement, cracked corn and bedding just incase he does return. If he does return, I will certainly let you all know. I didn't make any calls to look into getting medical attention for him. If he wasn't around it...

MN wild Mallard with broken wing

I couldn't find anything close in my initial Google search. Everything was closed also. I don't know if a Veterinarian would be willing to do anything. I could call them after work tomorrow.

I made him a soft mixture to eat. Minute oatmeal, cornmeal, small sized cat food, bell pepper (chopped small) and freeze dried mealworms, all cooked with extra water. After microwaving I cooled it in the fridge. He gobbled it up and came looking for more!

That's not a realistic option for me. The closest wildlife rehab is about 3 hours away.

Highly doubtful. We have about a foot of snow or more on the ground and his webbed feet are like wearing snow shoes. Even if I could, I have 2 cats and a big dog in the house.

Here's another view showing he just drags his right wing.

In summer my neighborhood has a frequent Mallard that waddles his rounds checking out the bird feeder zones. I think (George, as he has been called) escaped a situation with a broken wing. I thought I would share with you all whatever happens. I did check out the pinned post about what is safe...

That's a heavily stocked tank without the pleco, taking into account you have a lot of livebearers in there. The challenge you are up against is balancing the beneficial bacteria to the bioload the inhabitants are putting out. When you do your water changes and filter cleaning, my guess is this...

Oh, I forgot to mention that shrimp don't lay eggs. The are held under the abdomen while they mature in the eggs. When they are ready Mom will kick them out from under her. I think its neat to see Mom jostle the eggs with her swimmerets.

Yes, the Betta will provide free population control. The Amano will not reproduce in freshwater. The females will produce eggs. The eggs are fertilized when the shrimp molt. The Amano shrimp larva are unable to survive in freshwater. Amano are great algae eaters. The problem you are up against...

The male guppy finnage encouraging competition is wrong. The Betta will keep tasting the males tails, because that's about all they can catch. Housing a male Betta with female guppies isn't an issue because the females are too fast for the Betta to catch them. Also, no, a male Betta will not...

Probably not. Betta vary greatly in personality and disposition. I've had males that were extremely docile and females that would slay any male I tried spawning her with. In general with most fish, if the population density reaches a certain level the aggressive behavior diminishes. I'm not sure...

    Minnesota!

Okay, Minnesota chicken people. I've been searching for information on chicken ordinances for Alexandria, but haven't been able to find anything. I've checked the threads and links on BYC for chicken ordinances as well as google searches. Does anybody have any ideas where else I can check? I'm...

I agree, by now the ammonia probably has been processed. If ammonia burns to the gills happened it would affect all of them to some degree. They would all be jumpy and zipping about even with the lower temps. Its possible that the little one that died succumbed to a gill parasites and the added...

This is a long shot suggestion. Long shot because you don't have a positive id on the source, and because my suggestion leaves a stain. Here's my thoughts. - Difficulty breathing means either gill damage or a low oxygen level. Gill damage could be from copper, chlorine, ammonia or parasites. If...

I'm out of ideas. Sorry. The methylene blue will help if a fungal infection tries setting in from some other primary problem. I really don't think the change in temp is the problem. Freshwater fish can recover quickly from temp changes that they have gone through. Are there koi that don't seem...

Hopefully the Ich is completely gone. If not it will come back more aggressively. If it is gone the best you can do is to keep water quality as perfect as possible while he heals.
