Mealworms. Priceless. I now have two going on their own into their temporary pen with no ushering, just standing there waiting with a cup of those crispy critters. All but two have calmed down as they are separated and cooped up for the evenings. Hormones! smh
I made one out of soft plastic and to no avail lol. I just hope mating season is really short this year. The makeshift shelters I have for them (4 separate pens) ..........I have to escort some and pick up others to put them in. They are sooooooooooooooooo fickle!!! All but two of them have...
Hi all, I've been lurking. I seem to come on every several months these days. LOL the first person I look up is Miss Lydia. She's been such a great help to me over the years of goose love.
My geese are the same way. I say "time to go night night" and point from my front door. They look, take a...
Hi! Yes, the PT is doing great! It sure takes time to drive in tho and the fence is still going up. I understand on the notifications.
It's funny watching that baby with 2 mommas and Homer finally being a good daddy.
I've had company quite a bit with two very polite young men helping my hubby...
4 grown, 3 teens and one little one LOL. I made a mud hole for them this morning. The heat has been bad. They have large swimming pools (2) and 2 small ones..but the little one can't get in and Lil Bit struggles too. Can't wait for the fence to be finally over. For now they have app 1/3 of an...
I never put my eggs in the fridge. When I want them to peel easy......This illustration shows 2-3 weeks as stale. many of mine are that way at 4 weeks. I look at how much they are raised from the bottom and count up on weeks.
I took the last eggs. They weren't viable with the exception of a few that looked a very long ways to go. That would be too hard on her. They are now sharing the baby and doing well:)
Yes to the mess of raccoons and coys! There are actually coywolves all around here. We were watching for them...
The baby didn't make it :idunnoPoor Daisy is beside herself but is slowly sharing the one baby with Pearl. Poor girls look rough when broody that long. This is not a good photo, I snapped it when I was stepping out the door vs while they were out further in the pasture:
And the other one that...
Yayyy. Baby is hatched.
The last 3 eggs (candled in the light) also appear days away. I was able to remove 3 more eggs after it was out of the egg. Thank you for your help!!! I am relieved there's not as many fertile eggs left.
It's amazing how smart they are.......I was going to move her and...
Yes, I can. The two moms are doing well together and sharing the baby. I had them fully blocked off. I've been letting Homer in daily and watching him like a hawk to be sure he doesn't hurt it. You were right when you said 1-2 weeks :D
I just didn't know if I could move her while they are...
Success!!! Homer is now with the momma and baby! Whew!! He's been pacing every day for so long, he's asleep with them lol!
I think I better move Daisy to the lower nest......I hear peeping..:pop
do you think it's ok to move her with babies hatching and so forth? I doubt she'll leave the nest...
Wow, I am almost dreading the next ones hatching the way Homer, the gander is acting towards this baby.......I'm letting him in each day to see if he's handling it better. He paces all day up and down the adjoining fence waiting for his girls to come out.......
Hopefully in time.........
Here...
Hi. This is going to put them on the eggs for 6 weeks vs almost 5. And completely away if the broody loses more weight. She stopped getting off her nest when this baby hatched, baby went to other broody.........she then began getting off again to eat, swim and so forth.
I will take the eggs from...
When I candled, the eggs were so far from hatching. Not sure if I should put one broody on and take the one with the baby off. If one is getting off the nest and eating she's still doing a lot of work on her body
Those eggs are at least another week and a half from hatching.....that means two babies hatched. I found one under the timothy hay:( I am not getting how two hatched and the others are so far apart.........it took the bator ones 35, 36 and 37 days to hatch. Wont do that again lol. I'll watch for...
I will candle them this evening. With two girls going I separated them from each other a couple weeks ago when they were side by side. I can see I still have issues lol. Unsure of the dates and....... The eggs are mixed up. I divided them between them:hmm
I may take the eggs furthest along and...
