I googled easter egger rooster and wow Junebuggena, you're right! You called it 2 weeks ago lol, thanks! I'm a bit upset with McMurray for sending that as a "rare" chick. I knew the free one would be 50/50 shot at a rooster and I figured no biggie, I'll give him away to a kid to show if it's a...
Really? He looks nothing like my other 3 easter eggers and that's not even considered a rare breed according to McMurray. I'm surprised they'd send me that as a free "rare" chick. Well darn, I was hoping he'd be something somewhat special so I could give him away to a 4H'er or FFA'er for...
I got a better picture today, now you can see the reddish feathers on his back and I noticed his tail feathers are dark with a blue sheen, very pretty! Anyone have any guesses? After going through McMurrays rare breeds, I'm thinking maybe a blue-laced red wyandotte. I'm not sure though and I...
Just relaying an odd and applicable story lol. I've heard of farmers tying dead chickens around dogs necks, supposedly it breaks them of the habit. Gross!
Idk about comb type, he hasn't let me get w/in 5 feet of him in weeks. Unless he's rushing me lol, he's an a**hole. And yes, he's been crowing. Or trying to, it's pretty cute! I know it's young to know for sure but even if it's a hen with rooster tendencies, it needs to go. I'm in town and can't...
:( Have you looked into ways to train your dog to not kill them? I just heard a crazy story this weekend of a woman who trained her dog. He wouldn't stop killing them so she tied a dead chicken around his neck and locked him in the coop for a full week (!). No attention, no love, just food and...
Maybe?? Just going by McMurray's catalog, they don't sell those though. They have golden-laced wyandottes, blue-laced red wyandottes, or looking at the catalog pics now maybe it's a silver penciled rock? It's hard to see in the picture I took but he's getting some brown along the back of his neck.
This little guy (6 wks old) is rooster so he needs to go, but first I need to verify his breed. I'm pretty certain he's a golden campine but I thought I'd get the BYC's expert opinions! :) He was a free rare chick from McMurray. TIA for any help!
4 hrs after starting handfeeding/watering with vitamin water and mash and she's better! She's still having fits every few minutes but she's normal in between and able to eat on her own. Thank goodness!
Ok I'm giving her electrolytes/vitamins in a dropper, I'm not sure how much she's really getting. This really sucks because she's one of my favorites! I'll be so shocked if she pulls through. Poor thing :(
With wry neck, don't they normally twist their head to the side or up? I've seen chicks like that as a kid, it was a long time ago but this chick is different. She's putting her head down in between her legs, literally doing somersaults. I've never seen one do that before.
She's not able to eat or drink though, she's twisting her neck under so bad and twitching so that she isn't able to. I'm afraid to use a dropper for fear of aspiration as she's not putting her head up.
I take that back, she's not really laying down much. She's standing up and backing up with her head between her legs, once she hits the wall she continues to stand and twist her head under between her legs. It's so odd! Poor thing :(
I have a 4-week-old giant black who suddenly started acting strange an hour ago, she twists her head under exorcist-style towards her belly, laying down, eyes mainly closed, backing up. Any ideas?? Google pulls up nothing with these symptoms. I've checked her over for injuries and I see nothing...
I thought this post was started as a joke. People really do this? Do the moderators pick which threads go on the main page and if so, why pick this one?
She hasn't got out (yet), she's just a puppy, only 4 months old. They've only had her a month. I'm waiting...lol. she WILL get out. My run and coop are pretty secure (I hope) but no hot wire. They bought her from a breeder so no rescue rules unfortunately.
