Thank you! More helpful information! I had looked up a pick of a black Australorp hen, before posting this thread, and had thought she looks just like an Australorp. Do Australorps have feathers on their feet…? 🤔
Thank you! So, it could be that I DO have sex-linked maurans… I just hope they lay the dark brown eggs! That is what I was aiming for, when I purchased (what I hope are) maurans! 😄
Thank you, I didn’t know that! That IS interesting. I thought that I was most certainly getting a rooster, because of the dot on his head as a chick. I am glad he turned out to be a roo! He is just starting to crow and talk to the girls! 🤗
Hello! I bought several chicks from local farm store. Was told the black chicks with feathered legs were maurans. One of the black chicks had a yellow spot on his head, so I thought that may be a sex-linked rooster… I needed a rooster, so snatched him up. He was the only black chick with a dot...
Have Brinsea advanced mini with 3 eggs that had live embryos. It is day 22. 2 eggs still show movement when I quickly candled them. I thought they were dead.. I do not see an internal pip, though. I filled both water pots 2 days before hatch, as instructions said. Humidity has risen to 77%...
Hello, I have a baby chick that is mouth breathing. He stretches his beak open wide sometimes and shakes his head every now and then. He eats and drinks small amounts and does not seem to be thriving as all the other chicks are. Chicks were purchased on April 6th, hatch date was 3rd. I...
Thank you! I have feather legged chickens and thought the vaseline would make the feathers sticky and make dirt stick to them. May give it a try on some of my large bare legged hens!
Help! Was looking at other threads about scaly leg mites! There are so many ways to treat! I am looking for the best solution! I have sprayed with WD40 - works but worry about toxicity. I've dipped legs in cooking oil and that was a big mess, but it worked.. I am now trying canola cooking...
My calendar pic submissions: Pictures of a very good mother... :) Top pic..sometimes there's just not enough wingspan... Bottom pic was taken while waiting on junior to hatch... Mom was showing the early hatchers how to eat while patiently waiting on the last pipped egg to hatch.
(msmeower) Me too! The the blue rooster in the pic looks promising. He would definitely be a possiblity. Not sure if you have other blues to pick from, but he looks a lot like Benny. His comb and color... I've only purchased baby chicks by mail order (and I am always hesitant because of an...
How much do you charge for your roosters and can they be shipped? I have only purchased small chicks from hatcheries, so I am not sure about larger birds. The blue one that you have posted looks very similar to my Benny. :)
