I had some chicks arrive the other day and one was near dead. I did my best to nurse it back to health and it's doing pretty good except it holds it's head weird and is hell bent on pecking everyone else in the brooder.
I don't know what to do about either situation. It's roughly 4 days old.
Any tips on what to look for? Coloring, behavior? I can't go by its comb because sometimes it's pale and then other times, like when excited about something, it's red.
I tried looking at the saddle feathers.. totally lost on that one, I know where they are but not what exactly they're supposed...
I just noticed a green sheen to some of the feathers.. Guess that means definite roo huh?
If she turns out to be a he I'll have to find him a new home if anyones interested in a lap chicken
First, last night it kept pushing at my boyfriends arm til he moved enough for her to wedge herself underneath then stretched out and went to sleep lol
Then this morning after waking me up she decides to hop in MY bed and go back to sleep..
Well darn.. Yeah, the hen was an older one.
Oh well.. I guess I'll have to wait for the next batch, any way of telling the difference when they're really young?
I just bought my first chick and she's supposed to be a pullet but for the life of me I can't really tell and neither could the farmer lol
"she" is about 9 weeks.
Sorry for the crappy cam phone pix..
Anyone have any idea as to which "she" is?
Been lurking for the past couple weeks, figured it was about time I said hi. I finally got my first "pullet" yesterday Hopefully she doesn't start crowing lol
