I will check their vents for the width, thanks for the suggestion. Our other hens are 2 Wyandottes, 2 Ameraucanas and one Rhode Island Red. They (minus the Ameraucanas, obviously) have consistently been laying the very light brown eggs and they're already a year old.
I only say the number of...
Exactly, it could be either. From the pictures I googled it looks like the Welsummer eggs can be both spotted and clear. And google pictures looked like the Cuckoo eggs can also range in color, even the same color as Welsummer eggs.
If you enlarge or look closely at the bottom picture you can...
Hello! Almost a week ago we put our 3 Welsummers (2 might be roos, jury's still out) and our lone Cuckoo Maran in the coop. They've just turned 17 weeks old and to celebrate the occasion one of them laid their first egg! We found this little guy in the nesting box with all of the eggs from our...
Yes, someone else said he had the recessive single comb. Guess I have A LOT more reading up to do on GLW's!
You should get your chicks from the place I get mine. We bought 4 female chicks and 1 male chick and two of the females turned out to be males! You'd get a roo for sure.
Mrs. Doubtfire is what we changed the name of the other one to. When we thought it was a girl the name was Audrey Henburn. I thought Mrs. Doubtfire would be fitting since it was a boy masquerading as a girl!
Angus is cute. I like it! Thanks!
P.S. - Sorry for all the exclamation marks...
I see that others are saying it's a cockerel but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's a female. Of course, the others are probably right since they're experienced with raising GLW's and this is my first GLW, but I do know that my 7 week old male already has a comb standing straight up...
I'd offer to ship him to you, but apparently shipping a live animal from California to Maine would be $19 for the special box and $46 for 2-day shipping. That's a bit steep!
You could check your local area for anyone wanting to give one away. I'm sure there are lots. When we bought our chicks...
They all look like hens to me. Here's my 7 week old that we thought was a female but turned out to be a male. See how big his comb is at 7 weeks old? If you have any males they'll have a bigger comb than what your girls have at the same age.
She's gorgeous! My Gold Laced Wyandotte is named Agnes too! 7 weeks old now. Except, I have to rename the poor thing because we found out she's actually a he! Anyone have ideas on what to name him? I'm at a loss. My other girl that also turned out to be a boy is named Mrs. Doubtfire. Lol.
Here...
I'm having the same problem. Any ideas on the reasons they're fighting? The one on the right was picking a fight with our cock on the left. "She" kept chasing after him. I had to put her on a time out. Below is a picture of the contenders.
I'm so glad someone asked this because I'm having the same problem!
My cat has been an indoor cat since I got her at the age of 2 months. She was born in our backyard to a feral mother and pretty much lived in our backyard the entire time so I'm almost positive that she's never seen a chicken...
