Wow 70! I set 45 but broke 2 and when I candled before lockdown I had only 14 developed.. The rest were totally clear. So I'm hoping the 14 that are left hatch. 2 out, 8 pipped and the rest chirping inside :)

Fascinating thread! I want to cross buff Orpington rooster to light Sussex hen, from the chart this is a red/gold sex link but might be difficult to distinguish. Has anyone tried this cross and have photos of what the offspring would look like?

one of the chicks just died!! I don't know what happened, it was looking healthy and running around and I saw it drinking this morning and then they were all back under the heat lamp sleeping on and off and then they were running around again except for this one still under the light I lifted...

My buffs are all hatched now so I'm cleaning out the bator to set the quail!

These 6 buffs are healthy and running around the brooder. This is the last buff to hatch, waiting for her to dry out in the incubator. I added a flannel to help her dry out as she hatched 12 hours ago and still looks wet. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do? 1 chick quit when only...

Yes it's completely totally normal to have an ever increasing lump in your chest during a hatch complete with panic attacks and obsessive compulsive checking on the bator and willing the lil things to grow strong. I didn't sleep last night waiting in these partial zippers they are freaking me...

How late is it? If you tap the egg can you hear chirps? I'd try the float test. 100 degree water and put egg in, if it sinks to the bottom or floats (about half or more above water) it's not viable. If it floats just below the water level with only a small portion above its got a viable chick so...

And daughter came home and grabbed 2 dry chicks before I could tell her not to open the bator so they are in the brooder now but man are they sweet!

4 hatched, 4 zipping and 3 with nothing visible happening. When the zippers hatch and dry out later should I move the chicks to the brooder and candle the last 3 for signs of movement? I won't open while there are pippers/zippers in case I shrink wrap them and I know the chicks are fine in there...

My son's quail eggs just arrived so we will have to set them tomorrow for an early Halloween hatch

I have 2 hatched last night and 2 more pipped and another 1 pipped in the wrong position (right in the middle of the egg) out of 11.. I'm feeling worried. Its hard to see in the bator now as the humidity from the 2 hatched ones drying out as fogged the window.
