    Help First time parents

Thank you, Once again I just started raising chickens, so this is my first time for many things. I just wanted to ensure I did not directly cause a problem. When I candled the eggs, I removed them one at a time from mom, checked it, put it my pocket and got the other one. Once I checked...

    Help First time parents

So one of my hens went broody just before Thanksgiving. I gave her 3 eggs just to see what would happen. Yesterday I checked for extra eggs and notice one was cracked all the way around with one larger crack. I assumed this was pipping and candled them. All I could see in the egg was the air...

Question on Coop Space and Runs

Thank you all. I can give them double the run space if it is best. I plan to cover about 4 ft of the run as well with Plastic. I plan to keep about 6" to a 1ft open around the top for ventilantion. This should give them a snow and draft free run as well as the coop.

    Chicken Noob!

I think the Astrulorp is a girl, but the other two look like roosters to me. How long have you had them? at 18 weeks, roosters should be crowing, so maybe they are girls.

    Just getting started!

You could put the rooster with the other hens. Once you confirm you eggs are fertile, replace the eggs under your broody hens with fertile eggs. Chickens cannot tell the difference in their eggs and someone else either, from what I have read.

Why wont my chickens go outside?

My ramp is an pallet cut to size. My coop is about 3 foot off the ground. They use the pallet to get in, but normally just fly to the ground in the morning. I find food and water will get them adjusted. When you put your chickens up, put the food and water up with them. When you open the...

I am in the process of building two coops each for 8 birds. They should be happier when I am done.

Hen not wanting to go in the coop at night

I did and my chickens ran for it. My babies had to be put up because they were just huddled out in it. That was a fun afternoon.

    Raising Chicks in Winter

This really is great news. I guess I do look at them as cute little babies that need my protection lol. I may try it this winter. I would love to be hatching eggs from a breeding flock next spring. Thank you all so much for the links and advice.

    Raising Chicks in Winter

Hello, I wanted some advice on raising chicks. I have just pulled the trigger on my first flock. I picked up a barnyard mix locally. I love the fact that I have chickens, but I am not sold on these chickens. I thought about using these for meat and hatching my own or buying chicks. My...

    Chickens vs Space

Now in the winter there could be days in a row they may not go outside. Should I adjust the coop space to give them more room, or is closer better? I live just North of Flint and the winters can get bad here.
