Ordered them sexed :) Still feel lucky to have all girls considering they claim 90% accuracy. Wish I could order more this year, but our coop is at capacity.
We ordered from them again this spring; they are one of the few hatcheries that will ship smaller orders. 3 easter eggers, 2 rhode island reds, 2 blue cochins (both are black, was hoping for blue but oh well - they're adorable), 1 buff brahma, 1 delaware, 1 silver laced wyandotte, and 1 meal...
alert:
The county zoning board/commission's attorney said today that the county's ordinance is vague, and because the city's is so specific, the city ordinance is the stricter of the two and takes precedence. We have asked for that in writing, and for the complaining party to be notified...
Well, we got an answer back from the Mayor - apparently the county has "set him straight" on the matter. The county ordinance (even though I cannot find the specific one that prohibits "agriculture" on residential property), being stricter, takes precedence.
The moving thing is something...

705 LOW DENSITY-SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL (R-1A) 705.1 Intent These zones are established to provide for single family detached residences and supporting...

We were paid a visit from the dude with county zoning, who took pictures of the chickens in their run. He asked if we got his cease & desist letter - apparently no one told him we had contacted his office the day it was received. He was unfamiliar with the city ordinance, and...
We've heard quite a few conflicting things from city and county - but the Mayor himself sent an email saying that hens are fine as long as they aren't running at large (and a rooster would fall under the noise ordinance - we'll rehome any that turn out to be cockerels). Called the county to let...
Wondering if there have been any updates...husband and the kids have decided we no longer want to live in Woodford county, and since he is changing jobs, we are free to move :) Shelby county is on our potentially ok list - but only if we can have chickens.
We received a certified letter from Woodford county telling us to cease and desist keeping our 4 - 4 week old hens. One of our neighbors (pretty sure we know who) obviously; there are only 3 houses that can even see their playpen.
The county cited codes regarding agricultural vs residential...
Chicks hatched monday and we received our 6 chicks tuesday (3 black australorps, 2 buff orps, 1 rir meal maker) - they seemed fine upon arrival; no problems getting them to eat or drink. One of the poor little buffs is on her way out - looks like an infected yolk sac w/ all the classic signs...
