Ventilation for shed converted to a coop

I added these Solar exhaust fan to two chicken coops and a duck coop this summer during our extended heat waves. They were much bigger than I thought they would be and move a lot of air. I also liked that it came with the power plug to run during the night as well which they usually don't come...

Did hardware cloth go way up in price last year?.

I just finished a new run this summer and could only find 4' x 25' rolls around my area. The best price was at my Menards for $56.

    Bedding

When I clean and add new straw, mine go nuts for a couple days picking through it all but then they ignore it after that. I have a childs size rake I hang in the coop and rake everything back in place when I put them up for the night.

Anyone use the chicklifts for their chicken tractors?

I haven't even seen OverEZs wheels, $550 is a chunk of change! 💰💰The tractor designs I've looked into looks like require you to lift the tractor up to slide the wheels back on so the bottom could stay snug to the ground for predator protections. My back is not going to be able to handle that for...

Anyone use the chicklifts for their chicken tractors?

Next spring I plan to build a chicken tractor. My flock was used to having a 1/2 acre fenced area and lots of free ranging but I had a weasel attack twice this summer and kill half my flock so now everyone has to stay in enclosed runs. I thought a tractor could relieve some boredom and I would...

Relocating Chickens - Tips? Boredom Busters?

Since they have a fully fenced run, I would leave them to use that for a few days and not have them free range. They will want to go back to the coop when it gets dark.

Can I put something in my top hat's crest to slick her feathers back

When I had polish I had to give haircuts. Honestly, I can't think of anything you could apply that wouldn't run into their eyes or stay slicked back enough once it dries or stay put in the wind.

Help please! My hen has a large hole under vent, no signs of flystrike.

Ouch! I would suspect a puncture wound but its odd you didn't find maggots.

    Cockerels or pullets?

I will venture to guess you have pullets. I have a batch of partridge and buff Cochins from Hoovers that were suppose to be all female but I have one partridge that was sporting a good size comb at 5 weeks and is defiantly a roo. This is a photo of him at 6 1/2 weeks to see the comb difference.

    Cochin feet feathers

I've had cochins for years, never had that. If there is snow on the ground, my girls refuse to leave the coop till I shovel a path for them and only stick to the shoveled areas.

    Duck and ducklings behavior

I think she is protecting the duckling from you. If I have to do anything to my ducks, like checking feet, and they are squawking with me messing with them, I have one that runs up behind me and head butts me.

    Waiting on ducklings!

I had 15 chicks shipped during an intense heat wave about 8 weeks ago and was very nervous I would have some dead upon arrival but all 15 were in good shape with no loses during the last 8 weeks so fingers crossed for you. It's always pins and needles till you get them in hand.

When to release mom hen and chicks with flock

Your momma hen will protect her chicks from the rest of the flock. I've never separated a momma and chicks from the flock, not even the rooster will mess with her so I wouldn't worry that they will get bullied. As far as the predators, if you free range, that is always a concern regardless of...

If I had a pond and some ducks I would have to have this. So dang cute!

I have ducks but not pond either, but that is adorable.

    Concrete as run apron

You don't have to bury the apron, you can lay it flat on the ground. Grass will eventually grow thru it. I think 18 inches of hc is the usual width from the structure.

Landscaping for duck and chicken pen

My ducks are in a fenced acre of my lawn, lots of trees and shrubbery everywhere. I would worry about the blackberries in with the ducks. I had wild roses in different spots they had access to and kept getting bumble foot the first year. Once I cut out the wild roses, I stopped having bumble...

    Linoleum Coop Floors

I used leftover peel and stick squares on my poop boards and it cleans up nicely. I'm not sure if I would use it on the floor, I would think it would get slippery if water is spilled like nuthatched mentioned.
