Hello! I am in Reading in Berkshire in the UK. I am looking for other comrades in the neighbourhood with chickens or ducks. Is there anybody out there? I have 3 naughty Khaki Campbells, one of whom is laying now, and I love their wee nut-brown faces and their messy ducky ways x- feasel

Thanks - this is very reassuring! I revisited the website for the farm from which we got Honey, Bonbon and Pretzel and it seems they only sell female ducks so that is quite reassuring too though I suppose there could be some mistakes - it seems that it's hard to sex ducks until they grow a... -

Sorry, these aren't great either - it has rained lots here recently and the grey light is hard for taking good pictures! Must admit though, I'd describe Pretzel as a dingy brown colour and haven't picked up on any green in her colouring... -

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate this answer and laugh every time I think of it. We have made a duckpond and it STINKS. We are buying a hand pump and looking at filtration media to go in 2 big barrels... our hope is that we can circulate the water around the filtration barrels... -

The enclosure is predator proof but I was extremely worried about the ducks, nevertheless. We live in an urban environment and there are foxes around. I had 3 tries at getting them in, but eventually at half past midnight I got it to happen. (Was working on it from 9pm!) I tried rounding them... -

We love your solution so much - just wondered: did you bury cables and do you keep the pump on continuously, or do you take a trailing socket outside a few times a week and run the pump for an hour or so each time? We are looking at copying your amazing system but are wondering if we will need... -

I agree the pond looks weirdly massive in that photo but it genuinely is 1 x 2m... I will see how I get on with the siphon and report back. Thanks for input on stink time and individual duck needs! -

Our pond is quite small - 1 x 2m I think, and about .5m deep at the deepest point. The ducks were initially afraid of it but now they cannot get enough of splashing about in it! It's just a liner in the ground, no filters, plants or pump and it's getting predictably quite whiffy and gross. I... -

We did build a ledge in the pond so that it would be easy for them to get in and out, but they don't necessarily know about it - the water all looks the same from the top. I will have a think about a ladder; it would need to have a smooth end as the pond liner will be damaged by anything...- feasel
