Thanks for the info. Will give these a try. Very curious as to how these stop pecking/plucking and at the same time allow them to carry on with normal feeding.
Very good thread although I must admit I haven't read all 109 comments. Two questions, does the use of this food grade DE or 5% Sevin cause any risk in egg consumption? Also, I'm trying to identify if our flock is suffering from mites or lice. They began losing feathers around the base of the...
We have a flock of six. One by one over the past few months our hens have started losing feathers. At first I suspected it to be them sorting out their pecking order even though we haven't noticed any fighting or aggressive behavior. I now suspect their may be something more, possibly a mite...
We have six hens in our city flock. Four black australorps, 1 EE/Barred mix, and a red mix. We started getting eggs about two weeks ago. This morning I retrieved these three. Is the tiny egg a symptom of a problem or just a new layer? Thanks in advance.
Last question, can u tell me if the picture here is a barred rock hen or rooster? This is the third of the three 'barred rock' which we bought. It's comb looks significantly different than the other two.
Any idea on the second picture, Barred #2? Cockerel? Thank yall again for your time. We've had black Australorps and we gave them to a farm friend since they were reaching some age. The older girls were also stalking out the young ones.

We bought have three barred rock and another we were told was an Ameraucana. They are now about 12 weeks old. We know we have at least one rooster and actually expect two. Can anyone assist in confirming? Thank you in advance.
For the past 3-1/2 years we've had great layers in four black Australorps. Their egg production has dwindled over the past four months. We recently purchased three barred rock and an Ameraucana. After four weeks of hens stalking the young ones we decided to give away our Australorps. Now we have...
