My chickens are 8 months old and have never had grit. Their outside pen is all dirt. They go out everyday unless it's below -20 degrees Celsius. Do I need to give them extra grit? Out of 7 chickens we get 5-7 eggs per day. Unfortunately they recently have taken to picking on one chicken so I...
7/7 Eggs for the last week. My girls are officially 6 months old now! Great producers! Tasty eggs! Today will tell though, temperature dropped near -20 Celsius for first time in awhile last night. Fingers crossed.
6/7 yesterday. Still to cold to let them outside. They have a heat lamp on 24/7 and a heater when it's really cold. Been as low as -35 C earlier this week. My girls started laying eggs at 4 months old! Not sure who is doing what. One day we got all 7.
5/7 yesterday. It snowed a lot. Not sure if the girls got outside or not but I think so. My son likes to take care of them when he's home from school on the weekends. Hopefully we'll soon get a consistent 7/7. They are only just over 5 months old so I really shouldn't complain.
Mine laid 6/7. My son brought them in so I'm not sure what colours we got. I have 3 Thode Island Reds and 4 Columbian Rocks. Had another Red but she ended up a he and had to go live somewhere else. my kids weren't happy about him leaving.
5 eggs from 7 hens. It's -15 degrees Celsius here in the daytime, almost -30 last night. One of my eggs was bigger than an XL store bought egg! Last one we had like that had a triple yolk!
We haven't let them out yet they are a week old today. I'm not home but my daughter thinks one chick is limping. I told her there wasn't anything we could do, just wait and see. She's not happy with my answer.
Hi I'm new. My family just got 4 Rhode Island Red and 4 Columbian Rock day old chicks on August 5/15. We live in Novar Ontario. Looking for any and all advice for raising chicks in the north. We got them for our kids and for fresh eggs.
