I would like to also hear other opinions on this. I have a small coop that I keep roos in til they start fussing then I trade them out with a local guy in my area that gives 2 chicks per roo. That is only for the roos I do not intend to keep tho. The roos I keep are in the coops with the hens of...
Wow, I love your egg colors!! I have been hatching EE's for months now, I can not wait til they start to lay so I can see the colors every day! I have a Blue Am Roo over my flocks of Blue Orpingtons, Welsummers, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Gold Laced Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, and my White Leghorns...
I had a Black Australorp, gave her away when she was a little over 14 months because she had never even layed an egg. My friend has her just as a pet, she still does not lay eggs, and that's been a few months ago. So I do not know an average age for the breed, however I hope she lays soon for...
I have chicks hatching from my Blue Ameraucana roo and Barred Rock hen. So far one has a the light dot on its head, and the two others do not. Does that mean they can be sexed? And if so which is which? Thanks
I am hoping for as many pullets as possible of course....aren't we all
Chick 1 Pullet or Cockerel
Chick 2 which is my fav I am so hoping this one is a pullet???? I have others but didn't get their pics today so will be back for gender on them.
Yes that is my main concern but some guy hijacked my post on the swap site and he's on his way to go get the roo now, so I guess I start over looking. Thanks
My Blue Am was taken by a predator a few days ago so I am looking for another and this is one that is for sale in my area. I do not show, however I do let my broodies hatch. I do not sell chicks either, but I would like a nice roo. So that is why I am asking.
Breed doesn't matter. Some roosters are just ugly and some behave. Once they show the ugly side I do not keep them, I do not ever want them to get me or anyone else. That behavior is very hard to correct, not worth trying IMO.
I always put our chicks straight out in the brooder that is located in one of our coops. It is big and predator safe, and has a heating pad if needed they can get to. This is of course chicks we hatch in the incubator. Our chicks hatched from mama hens, I never mess with, I just let the mama do...
It is so much more enjoyable when the hen is raising the chicks. We just had our first broody hatch 3 chicks last month. And we our second broody on her nest now on about day 3. It has been the cutest thing watching the hen with her chicks, she takes them out free ranging a bit each day as I sit...
