I can see you made the change with the boxes! Good job! (BTW I would keep the box, and if you have more than 7 chickens in each box, and the box is only about 7in by 6 in, then make the box bigger, or make another box.
I would'nt use it, because i never really needed it, but if t's not mean't for chickens, then dont use it for chickens, that's one of my motto's, and there is things like the chick saver thing too.
Do you have any strange chickens? I have an Americana that does not have puffy cheeks (?!) A seven year old chicken (full grown aubveosly) and she is two inches tall (measured) and a 17 year old chicken! (might be a recrd IDK)
And I would not reccomen free range. Just build a really good coop, attatch it to a garden, close it off in gardening season, and you have good fertilizer
