I have one very angry hen, for the past several nights, since a coyote attack about 1 month ago, she is hard to approach and cawks loudly and puffs up at me when I approach. Today I found her in the egg box, very upset, also puffing and cackling short loud blasts at me. She seems really upset...
I have a flock of 9 hens of two varieties. There is one hen that two other hens are constantly chasing, pecking, jumping on, preventing from eating and drinking. We've witnessed this, when we see it we try to thwart the behavior but that is temporary. Is there anything we can do to help this...
I wonder how that will go? They have been joined at the hip for 2 years, now we have (chicks 6-7 of them) that will be isolated from them til they are large enough coming into the coop. Any thoughts on what might go down? I thought that since there are more of them then the 2 girls it might go...
We moved from the West Coast last year where we had 3 healthy hens. We get to hens from another member on this site. We were not able to take the ladies with us sadly.
We just got the new coop built and are hoping to get some pullets. Anyone in the Tri-Cities know of a good place for us to...
Hi relocated to Tri-Cities TN area and just finished the coop. Looking for someone who may have a few healthy pullets to sell. Also is there any meet-up groups we could meet fellow chicken fans, we are new to the area.
Thanks for your help. We actually have multiple roost points and a few areas for them to hideaway. It will not be possible to grow anything in the coop unfortunately. Any landscaping we have is dessimated by rodents and other creatures if it lives at all in our drought conditions...
Good questions! The coop is about a 10 x 10 so I they have room to roam around. There is no grass, I live in the desert, on a dirt road. They are fed a good lay pellet that I get from the local Hay barn and every day they are given oyster shells scattered, morning treats include things like...
Hi guys, this is my first flock and I have 3 hens here total. Two of them were added to the one I had when I culled the roosters. One I added (Bulldog) as a full grown laying hen, she immediately took the dominant spot over the other two and in fact the first night I put them together (after a...
Boy did I speak too soon, too good to be true. Some time this morning early, the aggressive hen really messed up the rooftop girl. Had to do some first aid and basically put the aggressor back in the small coop - I'll keep her there for 3 days this time by herself, if she attacks upon...
Yes things are improving a lot. She could also go inside the coop to hide but they only seem to go in there to lay or at night. I did isolate the rowdy one for one full day and then put her in the box that same night, in the morning there was market improvement and now she spends a lot less...
Thought 'd give you all an update and let you see what I've been talking about. Things have calmed down as of late. I think all three girls are going to be fine, thank you all for your help.
Thank you so much for your input, we took the roo out Friday, then snuck the new girls into the dark coop on Friday night. So it hasn't been very long, it's just the old girl has spent so much time on the roof to escape over breeding from the roo that I feel like she is knows no other way. I...
I'll get you a pic in a bit. Meanwhile, I tried what some others have talked about and put the aggressive girl into the smaller inner coop/run so she is separate from the other two I think I might leave her there overnight. I had one old girl (roof top addie) and I brought the two new girls in...
Hi Guys, I have an update and a question. We got rid of the roo, I must say I am flooded with relief as I can enter the coop without major drama. But my lone girl, who is actually bigger then the other 2 new girls, won't come off the roof (it's been a refuge from the roo for her for some time...
Hmmm, thanks you guys, it seems thoughts are mixed about this and to "how funky" you are correct, they are in a smaller mobile coop in the garage and have been for about 3 weeks. They seem very healthy and so I feel this weekend we can place the small coop in the large one and let them observe...
Hi Everyone, I have a very aggressive rooster that I raised with a very sweet hen, they get along kind of ok but not that great (she retreats to the roof a lot due to overbreeding) - he attacks us mostly, so I got two mature hens and the incubation is nearly complete - the girls are doing great...
