Thanks obe.....I guess his brother will get double the attention now...I just dusted him, and I don't think I've ever had an animal, or a person for that matter, that mad @ me in my entire life! Got a little laugh out of it though...just what I needed I guess....
Again, thanks for the support...
Well, our family is completely heartbroken....Colonel fell over on his side, wouldn't get up, began convulsing and shuddering, then just stopped breathing....For the relatively short time we've had him, we grew really attached. I'm gonna go bury the poor guy.
Thanks for all of the support guys...
Yeah, the milk was on Thurs. night, and literally like a half of a teaspoon to help liquefy the egg...I thought it would have been better than water and my wife wasn't back from the store with the pedialyte at the time. He now has a really nasty amount of poop-clumping on the feathers around his...
Thanks a million robin, will do. Btw, my wife has been pretty amazing throughout this ordeal, feeding bathing, etc., when I tell her we need to get baby food, she's gonna go to the store immediately to get it, I guarantee! Oh, and when I opened his mouth just now for a dose of pedialyte, I...
Please help....I can by no means afford a fecal from a vet and everyone I've called is saying that so far I've done the right stuff, but here's what my rooster's poop looks like....
Not sure what's going on....his appetite isn't improving much, we've got him separated, and he's still really...
Hey, I'm a newbie too, and this is something I stumbled across while googling to figure out what was wrong with my rooster. It's a site from the University of Florida and the tables @ the bottom are pretty useful in nailing down the symptoms of an ailment, for me at least...
Update: I just dusted the coop, I'm gonna do the whitewash thing sunday when I can get some more sevin... I also mixed pedialyte and water for him to drink on his own, gave him a few doses of pedialyte, and I mixed yogurt, protein mash, boiled egg, vit. supplement and a dash of pedialyte for a...
O.k., here's the updtae: Colonel completely bounced back from his resp. infection ( https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=220700) and yesterday when I was about to start his probiotics, he took a sudden turn for the worse...lying on the ground, unresponsive, wouldn't drink or...
Yeah, we had a little shower last night, and I caught him drinking water that had accumulated in the back of one of my son's toy dumptrucks this morning... I dumped it and he's been really compensating for the lost fluids.
Thanks again 3horses....you're the greatest.
Thank you guys, I wanted to report that colonel is much better so far. He's much more active with a better appetite and is lifting his tail. I have noticed that his diarrhea hasn't improved much, but he is drinking a lot of water..medicated and regular...he's still being treated as second banana...
Thanks a million 3horses...we really love these guys...they've got a ton of personality and I'd hate to lose them or see them suffer...We're totally going to check on that Bluebonnet feed. We just discovered our new feed store about a 1/2 hr. away, and I'll see if they have it...Will also follow...
O.K.,I went and put an old towel around him and used a warm, wet washcloth to clean up around his eyes, comb and beak. I did the best I could with only a flashlight. Here's what he looks like now...a little wetter and a lot angrier
...no foul smell, based on what I've read here and pictures I...
Yeah robin, the crusty stuff has definitely gotten dirty, but if you look at the feathers above his eye, you can kinda see where it goes from a dark brown to the normal color of his feathers....they're normally a whitish color there... the mucous was originally opaque/clear but he's been in a...
P.S.
This is where I tried to narrow down my rooster's symptoms before a vet tech reccomended this forum over the phone....it's a University of Florida website extension with a few tables and numerous descriptions of symptoms and treatments....were I more knowledgeable I believe it would have...
Thank you, I googled fowl pox earlier , and the discoloration you see is actually what i believe to be dried mucous..(it wipes off) the photos I saw of chickens infected with the pox were very different. I tried to wash off the area(and was thoroughly wing-beaten &scratched), but these guys...
I figured out the picture post btw....
This is Two-piece,the healthy one.
This is his brother, Colonel Sanders, the sick one.
The stuff around his eyes doesn't smell, and I am at a loss. Thank you for your suggestion. I hope this sheds a little light.
Oh, sorry. Yes, we typically feed our boys with a corn mash and occasionally an all-purpose pellet mix from the feed store. We sometimes feed them fresh veggies (zucchini, lettuce, carrot peelings, tomato slices etc.) Sometimes my wife will throw out a handful of crackers, bread or corn tortilla...
Hey guys, I'm new to the site and pretty new to caring for roosters as well. I have two roosters, " brothers " in fact, and one has become ill over the last couple of days. His symptoms include runny green diarrhea, listlessness and what appears to be dark areas (dried mucous) around the eyes...
