exactly. we made many mistakes...so now that we know better we will do better. Funny, our Brahma had go eat broody withing about two months of laying get her first egg, go figure.
I think it depends on so many factor. We had given our broody, eggs from another chickens Let me tell you I thought nothing was going to hatch...but day 22, 23, and 26 we hatched healthy babies that all survived well.
I totally see the whole putting food on the other side. She just seemed really "off" when she brought the dead chick out of the nest ad suddenly started checking around for food. She was wonderful before this whole mess! I just don't want her off for at least another 24hrs. We put the eggs...
Ok, so originally she had to get off the nest...but then move the eggs closer to the food and water+slippery bottom and that's what =pooptastrophe. So she moved the dead chick away from the nest and then was looking for the food.....which I had removed. I will put it far away from her nest box...
ok so we did remove the water and food. She had one chick hatch and die, and she took it out of the nest box. She's panting though. Do I need to worry about her getting dehydrated?
thanks, she has to get up to get her food and water. I read many different point of views on that topic. she has been broody for probably 6 weeks. it took us awhile to get eggs. she has gotten off to poo before, and tried this time. I think her legs had fallen asleep from how she was sitting...
Slight disclaimer because this is the third time today I'm posting this....I'm really worried and my son is like an anxious Papa. Here's the tragic poo story.
omg what an afternoon! Our broody girl has 11 eggs under her and for whatever reason she moved them to the center of the crate last...

Now she makes these funny purr-like sounds if we appraise her crate lol!!I know she's turning the eggs bc I've seen the position change. she went I Monday night and still no broody poo. she has water and food though. Thinking we might put on hazmat suits for protection and try to get her away...
I ended up getting some light brahmas from a guy in Lake Stevens. Our Brahma is sitting on 14 eggs.....soon we'll have to get her up though and make her poop! I live in. an unincorporated Snohomish County area. the rules are weird and inconsistent. Town says ok, county says not within 3O feet of...
By morning she had taken all those eggs and pulled them under her!! I read that I should be turning them, but I can't imagine trying to get under her, let alone turning them. My hand would look like I had an accident with a skill saw by the time I was done, for sure.
Hello everyone! I bought some fertile eggs for my broody brahma. She's suddenly crazy moody! Anyhow we planned to just stick them under her but her stink eye made us think twice! My son put the eggs in front of her and she pulled four under her, but then left the rest im front the of her...
They are I suppose. We can't have a roosters, the neighbors would go nuts. Our flock really belong to my son. He has some special needs, and the flock has been wonderful in terms of teaching him responsibility. Our Brahma is simply the kindest girl. She used to sit on his shoulder. Now that...
