I have some questions about geese food. My MIL is taking some leftover seed wheat to the Co-op and getting it mixed with milo and soybeans for her chickens for winter feed. I am not a born-and-raised farm girl, so I didn't know that was even a possibility! Is there a mix of corn, wheat, milo...
LOL! Well, I guess I hadn't really noticed that til now! I do prefer big dogs, little yappers drive me insane. Color doesn't matter. But thinking about it, anything little would be coyote/bobcat/owl bait anyway!
This is Millee, our German Shepherd.
Rocky is our Great Pyr. He's 10 year old, and still keeps the farm protected! Oh, yeah, and that's the badger he killed a couple months ago not very far from our front yard.
Mack is our Great Pyr puppy. He's "in training" right now, learning from the Old...
I LOVE living on a farm! Snakes and spiders don't bother me, which is good, because we have plenty of both! I would rather have the bullsnakes around to keep the mice under control than use poison.
Wow. Just wow! I have a black thumb, but PLENTY of wheat to play with! I'm going to try this, but on a smaller scale. Don't want to kill an entire tote of it! ;)
All 5 of my ducks are females, so I'm lucky there. And if we have a bullsnake big enough to eat a goose egg, well.....I think I'll have to catch him and donate him to a zoo or museum!!
That is the egg-thieving bullsnake I found in my duck's nest. I relocated him to the shop side of the barn hoping he'll go after the mice instead of the duck eggs. That was August, and I haven't seen him since! If it had been a rattle snake, I would have killed it instead of just moving it.
I've seen it somewhere, and now I can't find it, but what are some good treats to give ducks and geese in the winter? I'm thinking their usual treat of thawed-but-still-cold frozen veggies won't be as good of an idea as it was in summer. I know I'll have to increase their feed amounts.
