    German and American New Hampshires

Do any of you that have been working with or developing/improving the American line of Hamps have any photos they can share? I'd love to see some photos. Including photos of any mixed German/American birds . Thanks ahead of time. Joe

    German New Hampshire

I got gifted and surprised with dozen hatchery Hamps from Murray Mcmurray. I requested that they got vaccinated for Mareks but not cocci. I feed medicated chick starter. I also have 9 German Hamps that are vaccinated for Mareks.

    German and American New Hampshires

Thanks for the reply. If I breed the German line and keep culling and making selections out of the same gene pool, do I have to worry about brother sister mating or father daughter, mother son? Or is that exactly what I want to do? I dont want to open a entire new can of worms and another topic...

    German and American New Hampshires

Hello everyone. I hoping some of you have some input on this. I got 9 four week old German Hamps from a breeder. She told me ahead of time that she was not great at sexing chicks so she couldn't sell me just pullets. Now that they are older it looks like 4 or 5 might be cockerels. It's not what...

Breeding hatchery stock to SOP, is it worth it?

Well I guess that answers my question. I don't think it can be said better than that.

Breeding hatchery stock to SOP, is it worth it?

I hope there is more input to this idea. It answered some questions I had. Does anyone have photos that show the differences in the quality of birds through different generations starting with hatchery? Im very interested to see how good the birds can be by year 3 or 4 if the right selection is...

    How many weeks?? German Hamps

Thanks for the reply. Maybe they are 6 weeks old. I've looked at pics of 6 week old chicks and they look a little more advanced than mine. My chicks still have the down type feathering on their heads. The photos at 6 weeks look like they actually have feathering on the head. I know it's...

4-5 week old chicks- medicated mash?

Thank you. Good point. I will ask the breeder. I have a feeling she didn't vaccinate for cocci because I know she recommended medicated mash to me. But I will still ask just to make sure.

4-5 week old chicks- medicated mash?

Hello, I recently ordered some chicks from a breeder. The hatch didn't go that well. So to make it up to me the breeder shipped me chicks that were between 4-5 weeks old. They were chicks that she was holding onto for herself. I had a bag of medicated mash ready to go for day old chicks. Instead...

    How many weeks?? German Hamps

Hello everyone. I know posting photos of the chicks would obviously help and I'm trying to get that accomplished. I had some chicks arrive today. The breeder thought they were hatched Feb 28th but she has had multiple hatches after that date. That would make them 6 weeks tomorrow. But looking at...

At first when I saw the first photo I thought cockerel. But then after seeing the 2nd and 3rd photo I agree it looks like a pullet to me.

How To Get Rid Of Chicken Mites.

Nice work!! I had a old timer tell me that he would sprinkle a little seven dust under each wing in the "armpit" area. The dust would eliminate all feather lice, mites, etc.

    Fox Attack! Please Help Me!

X 2! I hope you get that fox. Don't get me wrong, I love foxes. I think they are beautiful animals and unbelievably smart. But I don't want them in my hen house. Your hen is very lucky. She better give you extra eggs! :D

Do you bring your hens' feed indoors each night?

I agree. However it's not only predators you might have to worry about if you leave out feed. You easily could be attracting rats to your coop/house as well. My suggestion is to pull any left over feed at the end of the day. Keep your eyes open for holes in the ground around your coop. That is a...
