I m a proud father of 10 little chicks , and more on the way. All staggered hatch. I turn them about 3-4 time a day. I left alone the eggs that seem like it's going to be on it last few days before it hatches. They hatch about 2 at a time , the experience is unreal! I would like to give thanks...
Today I found 3 new borns under my broody, to my horror my Broody hen is infested with little black bugs/mites/lice....(not sure what exactly they are)
I immediately brought the 3 chicks inside, they have the little black bugs too.
I put them on top of a piece of paper towel and started killing...
This my first time and I have been learning along the way. Ten minutes ago , another lucky one managed to come out .
They started under a broody hen , then I realised she had too many under her, then moved a few into the incubator.
welcome to this world little guy.
This is the only one that came out today in the incubator, I am expecting 6 more ... but I guess they are still not ready.
I have 6-8 eggs from the same batch under a broody hen, but no signs of chicks,,, day 22... anyone know if this means that they all...
Thank you for all your replies, I am so excited now,,, got the brooder ready....
But now been 12 hours, only one egg has a small crack....
I do not have a hygrometer, by looking at the photo, does anyone know approx the % of humidity in the incubator?
Today is day 21 in the incubator, I can hear faint "chirping" from inside the egg.
Is this normal ?
I don't see any pipping ....
Anyone knows anything about what this might be?
Thank you for your reply. I have taken 8 eggs from her today and put it in the incubator.
I candled the eggs some are normal with no signs of embryo.
I have only left the ones that have some sign of life in them .
This morning , 15th day into hatch, my broody hen went out for a walk for about ten minutes.
I noticed a few of the eggs cooled down. I took them out.
Later she went back to sit on the eggs.
Is this normal for her to leave the eggs and go for a walk on day 15 into hatch ?
Today should be my Silkie's 14th day sitting on her eggs. She haven't left her eggs until today, went and run around the yard for about ten min and back to her eggs. What I am concerned about is the amount of eggs she has in her nest.
She has 24 !!! Is that normal and I am not sure if I should...
Thank you for your reply. I m new to having Silkies as pets. They are lovely indeed. When they are hungry for corn , they would wait by the glass door. Lately I have added a boy to my 3 girls. I am wanting to buy an incubator from the Internet. Wondering if anyone could give me some advice on...
