Thinking about getting turkeys, some questions!

We have only about 5 acres but have fields around us. So it's no big deal if theyou wander in the fields. Their coop would be back from the road. My chickens never went by the road. But I have never had turkeys! So I don't know how curious they are

Thinking about getting turkeys, some questions!

I have one concern with free ranging turkeys. Do they stay around like chickens do? We live by a busy road and I wouldnt want any to go out by the road.

Thinking about getting turkeys, some questions!

I wasn't comparing to store bought. I am just debating on heritage vs broad breasted. We already have chickens so to keep a trio of turkeys through the winter I wouldn't think to be a big deal. We go out to feed the chickens anyways!

Thinking about getting turkeys, some questions!

I am also thinking about getting turkeys next year? Does anyone have an idea of cost comparison of broad breasted vs heritage? Obviously you feed heritage all year long but at the same time you can hatch your own heritage chick's vs buy more. Is it cost effective to have heritage or is it a lot...

    Worms?

So yesterday I noticed an ill chicken. Well when I went out this morning she had passed :( I looked her over and didn't find any reminents of fleas, ticks or mites. I then proceeded to investigate some poop. There was possibly one worm in one pile. It was white and very small. I am thinking I...

    Chicken laying down often

Ok. I will have my husband help me check them all over tonight. I haven't noticed any blood in stool. They are all very activery and eating and drinking. Always waiting for treats. When I worm them do I have to discard the eggs?

    Chicken laying down often

I just got the flock about 4 weeks ago. I was told they were all around 18 months old. They were all molting when I got them and finished up about 2 weeks ago or so. She is eating and drinking.

    Chicken laying down often

I have this girl that lays down often during the day. Is that normal? It also appears that her comb is pale. When she is up and about she walks normal. Pecks and scratches around like normal. I see her eating and drinking as well.

How to tell who is laying

I live in Wisconsin. They are about 1.5 years old. When I picked them up they had started the molting process. And from the stress of moving I was told they would take a little time to start laying again. We are up to 16 eggs today! And I am pretty sure there is at least 1 more that will lay yet...

How to tell who is laying

Hi there. So I am new to chickens. I have 26 laying hens that started laying again about 6 days ago. Yesterday I got 13 eggs. Aside from sitting there all day is there any way to figure out who is laying. I don't want to feed chickens that are not laying. Maybe I should get a video camera! The...

bout how much does one sell a dozen farm fresh eggs?

I am in east central wisconsin. The going rate around here is 2.50 to 3.00. I just posted my eggs for sale and someone asked if I would sell for 1.50! I refused that offer. To me that is too low and I will find customers elsewhere

    No shell on egg?

They do have free choice of oyster shells available all the time. I will give her a few more days. It's hard because if I don't see her laying I won't know if she keeps doing it
