A littel different take.....any idea who laid the big Olive egg in this batch?
I have a mixed flock from McMurray hatched 10/15/16. The laying commenced 3/6/16. There have been 3 previous olive eggs all very small. This could be the same hen but we were thinking not. It was suddenly so much...
I have ordered from McMurray several times and had good luck. Very healthy chicks. Got lucky with my mixed assortment and have a lovely little flock ordered 10/13/15 that has just begun laying a rainbow of beautiful eggs!
I agree. I received two leghorn pullets in my mixed assortment from McMurray Hatchery. Their combs stayed very light nearly up to laying. About 3 weeks ago (they were born Oct 13, 2015), the combs began to grow and get red. They started laying very soon after and I have had 2 white eggs nearly...
I love my EEs! The hatchery where I bought them made it clear that they were not purebred. Three of mine have beards or muffs (I am not sure of the difference) and three do not (one of those met an untimely demise sadly). I do wish that they had mentioned the term Easter Egger so I wouldn't have...
It is a lot easier to just order them from a hatchery. Even if you want fewer than the minimum, I have never found it hard to find homes for the extra chicks. Especially in areas where you can't hit the Tractor Supply lottery (ie, get there before they sell out the shipment). To increase your...
I got a mixed assortment from McMurray Hatchery Oct 15. I did end up with 3 RIR pullets and they did not have speckles like these chicks. I am not familiar with the other two breeds you mentioned but I am pretty sure you can rule out RIRs. It is probably going to be a while yet before you can...
I have white leghorns and easter eggers that look just like yours, all pullets (in fact they started laying today).
I have no idea about the polish but I think all the rest are very likely pullets.
I have a new little flock of 18 hens (and down to one roo) bought from McMurray Hatchery arrived Oct 13, 2015.
Mixed: 2 white Leghorns, 3 black Australorps, 1 New Hampshire Red, 3 RIR, 1 black Jersey Giant, 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg, 5 Easter Eggers and 2 more grey/white chickens not identified...
I am not sure what my extra was as I got an assorted mix of 25, in the fall no less! Plus 6 Americana (sp) pullets. All arrived alive and survived at least 4 weeks. All of the "Easter Eggers" were indeed pullets, 3 with muffs, 3 without. I got six black chicks - turned out to be Australorps (3...
So my pretty chickies are 17 weeks or so now and out of my five little penguins, one was a roo and four were hens lucky me. So one of the hens had been looking a little different, head not quite as dainty, smaller comb and body looking like she was going to out grow the others. Then I realized...
Thank you! Yes, the black tear drops on the white feathers are gorgeous. Glad to know it isn't a bantam breed. She is just so much smaller than the RIR, black Australorps, Easter Eggers and others that came with the batch. I love her big eyes and dainty head. I call her Dovey.
I will try to get a better photo tomorrow. In the meantime, after looking thru Pinterest til my eyes hurt, I thino she may be a Silver Spangled Hamburg.
