A lady I spoke with recently said that she's discovered that the broody hen's chicks grow faster and larger than those "human-raised". She felt however that they're a little harder to domesticate.
The two roos I raised in a very mixed flock of mostly roos (to see what they're like in person) were very docile. If I could have a large mixed flock, I'd have Fav roos, but they get picked on by other breeds because they are so docile. With more than one roo, separation may be necessary. Wish...
With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is the breed I'd like to own again.
I've lost the clips that hold the rods in the pan on the bottom of the 12# feeder. Anyone have any idea where I can get replacement ones? The store where I bought it was no help.
I have an article by an old-timer from the UK, who says meaness is hereditary, so who am I, a novice compared to him, to argue. I agree with the others; I wouldn't keep him. A nearby friend had a couple of mean Sebright roos. She was using a broom to change the situation, she thought, and...

Aren't Faverolles GREAT??!! I have 2 standard Salmon cockerels I raised this year to see the color, and I'm keeping one and buying him some girls next year. He's the only cock who "talks" to me!! And he's so big (stds get 7#), but he's sooooo gentle with the baby bantams. He stays in their pen...
How are the Santa Cruz Mountains these days? I used to love driving over that way, and visiting the beach, when I attended SJSU. Been a "few" years back now.

I raise rare and endangered chickens, specifically, to increase the number of these valuable birds, which should not be lost to extinction. If I were one, I'd want someone to save and preserve me and my lineage. Part of this reason includes educating myself and others about these gorgeous and...
I'm from MT, new to this site, and absolutely love it!! I can't believe it took me so long to find it. It has sooooo many more members and features than any other I'm a member of, and that's a few. Thanks so much for all the great info, and fun conversation. I've already begun recommending this...
I have a trio of Red Jungle fowl that are 3mo. (cockerel) and 9 wks. (pullets). I ship to the lower 48 states; email me [email protected] for details and pics, if you're interested. No obligation.
