Have you considered ordering from Frey's?
Depending on where you're located in Ontario, Performance Poultry might be a good option as well. They are a little more pricey than the other hatcheries in Ontario, and require pick up at their facility, but they have a much bigger selection.
Depends, what traits would you consider dominate in a rooster? One that is aggressive towards people, or just a good protector? Or one that keeps all the hens in line?
Regardless, I imagine it would depend on the individual bird's personality. I've had roosters from "friendly breeds" who turned...
Thanks for the info!
The reason I was asking was because I remember reading somewhere that breeding two Blue Mille Fleur together produced only 50% Blue Mille Fleur chicks, 25% Mille Fleur, and 25% Splash.
I'm in Canada and am ordering from a local hatchery, Performance Poultry.
I am expecting my first D'uccles on April 28th/29th, and am so excited! My initial order was for 5 Mille Fleur, however the hatchery was already sold out of regular Mille, so I will be getting 5 Blue Mille Fleur instead.
It's my understanding that the Blue Mille Fleur are pretty much the same...
Thanks! and oooh lucky! Sebrights are nearly impossible to find around here. There is one local hatchery that sells them but I placed my order too late this year and they were sold out of all except the Buff variety, which I am not too fond of, so chose another breed instead.
I'm so sorry for...
Here's a couple pictures of one of my Silver Sebright roosters. I'm relatively new to the breed, just got two roosters as day olds a little less than a year ago and am loving them so far! They're such beautiful little birds, and pretty sweet too. I would really like to get into breeding them but...
Hey everyone!
I've been seeing quite a few different threads for sharing pictures of poultry bought from particular hatcheries and thought it might be fun for some of the Canadians on this forum to join in! I chose Performance Poultry since it has a large variety of ornamental birds compared...
Or any other breeds even? I saw a similar post for uploading pictures of stock ordered from another Hatchery, thought it would nice for the Canadians on the forum to have a similar thread, that being said, does anyone have pictures of any birds they ordered from Performance Poultry?
Hi everyone.
I am thinking about placing an order with Performance Poultry in the next few days and I wanted to see if anyone has ever gotten any Sebrights from them in the past? Do you have any pictures? I just want to get any idea of what quality their Sebrights are before I place an order...
Thanks for your response. I will try e-mailing him and see what he says. I can understand having a minimum order for each type of chicks, but applying that to each breed and color seems a bit unreasonable. Maybe I can find someone who would be interested in doing a group order, otherwise I think...
Roada Red - It looks like you're located in the states, Performance Poultry is a Canadian hatchery, I don't think they they ship birds outside of Canada.
Hey everyone. I've been wanting to order from Performance Poultry for a couple of years now but kept missing ordering season by a couple of days. This year it seems like they've changed their policy and you're now required to order a minimum of 5 chicks per breed, and you can't mix and match...
I actually have a question for anyone who has ordered from Performance Poultry. I've been wanting to order from Performance Poultry for a couple of years now but kept missing ordering season by a couple of days. This year it seems like they've changed their policy and you're now required to...
Hi everyone.
I have a week old duckling with a curled foot. I have read a few different posts from people dealing with the same situation that suggest making a credit card cut out of the ducklings foot, than using it as a base to tape the foot flat. I have been doing this with my little guy but...
Hi everyone,
In an earlier post I explained that I rescued 3 eggs from one of my ducks that left them behind when moving nests. 1 of the eggs has since hatched and the other perished (the egg had been damaged when I found it) and the last egg is still sitting in my incubator. For those who...
Well, duckling one has been doing good (despite having a curled foot but I plan on making him a shoe and doing some physio with him)
I am not sure about the second egg. He stopped moving again. I think he may be done for.
Looks like a good pip, membrane doesn't appear to be drying out so I would leave him be. It can take up to 24 hours before chicks make any progress after pipping, and assisting too early could have disastrous consequences.
I would definitely recommend you, or any anyone who is looking to get...
