Hi Debbie,
We just recently took a mini vacation and had someone take care of the girls. I would be leerly of leaving them unattended for even a day. Mine are layers so the eggs have to be collected every day. Besides they would need fresh water & food. I don't know if you plan on...

Thanks for the tip, I've had to add vitamins and electrolyte powder to my hens also. It did help some but nothing like what you experienced, gonna have to try some for my girls.
If the weather is warm enough you can let them outside for short period of times. Just keep a close eye on the ones that aren't fully feathered out yet.
I'm sorry I don't have any answers about you're ill chicken. But you may want to get a couple more, just in case, especially since you need to quarintine the new ones for a bit before adding them.

Have they started showing signs of getting ready to lay? If so, I would just stay with what you're feeding them. I found that with the pellets there is less waste than with crumbles. Yours are old enough to be on pellets if you wanted to put them on it.
I don't any are ready yet...

Typically not, because you don't know exactly when you'll get the first egg and their nutritional requirements are different. I fed mine the grower pellets until I got the first egg and finished the bag then switched to layer pellets.
So they start out on chick starter, then grower...

I had the same issue, plus mine were already stressing trying to fill their feathers back in that they lost from the rooster. After some research and talking with or local chicken guru, I've added the following; stress ez suppliment to their water (vitamins & electrolytes), and some form of...
Mine headed to the freezer. I tried alot of the suggestions that are listed for calming a aggressive roo and none of the worked. I've heard too many horror stories of children being hurt by roos also. Although I don't have any kids around I couldn't do anything in the pen without keeping one...
She looks like she could start laying at any time (based on the red comb, the redder the closer), however since she hasn't started the squatting behavior yet it could still be a bit. I found with mine that waiting for that 1st egg seem to take forever. Then when you least expect it.....bam...
I tried the all in one waterer with the heated base, and yes it was very difficult to fill. I have the steel galvanized waterer (3Gal) and haven't had an issue with the hens tipping it over. I have mine set up on a couple of blocks to help keep the shavings outa the water and then in the...
The ladies do get heat stress and it will cause a drop in egg production. I found out the hard way with mine. I've since been adding a stress suppliment to their water and give them some type of dairy every other day )either first thing in the morning or in the evening). I hope this helps...
Kids come first. "Rehabilitated" roosters can never be completely trusted-- it's just the nature of the beast.
I fully agree with you. I tried many of the methods that were recommended for trying to teach the roo's not to be aggressive with me (talk about biting the hand that feeds you)...
