Thank you Sumi and Chickengeorgeto for your advice. All very helpful information. I will pass this onto my friend and if she obliges I will come back with some photos.
Not been a member on here for long so I'm fairly new to posting and how the forums work.
Appreciate the input greatly from...
Hi, asking on behalf of a friend who has recently bought a couple of hens from a local breeder.
These hens have clipped beaks, not unusual I realise, but the seem to be having a bit of trouble eating vegetable matter and I wondered if this was normal?
They eat pellets no problem from the...
Thank you Rooden and Rebrascora, all really helpful information. Today I have heard my first crowing! Didn't see who dunnit but I strongly suspect Mr Colourful. Watching with interested...
Ok. Thanks. I know it seems obvious from the pictures but my brother has just said to me this afternoon that he's not certain and that I should hang on longer to be sure. He feels that the cross breeding is confusing matters.
I suspect you are right. At first it looked like 3 girls an 2 boys as we had 2 little chipmunks and 2 black with white headspots but it does seem that one chipmunk is blossoming into a rather colourful handsome rooster. The 2 barred black were always suspected boys owing to their headspots and...
Thanks. Yes they are lovely and colourful mixed bunch. I'm reluctant to get rid of any of them but I won't be able to keep 3 roos sadly. Just hanging onto them until we have something definite to go by. No crowing yet!
Hi there. I am loving my little brood of 5 legbar crosses but at 13 weeks old now I am still struggling to identify genders and which genetic mixes I have. Rooster was Cream Legbar for all 5 but there were 4 possible mother hens (Bluebelle, Cuckoo Maran, Buff Sussex, Black Rock). Do I have 3...
I would appreciate your thoughts on my mixed brood. I have 5 chicks, 7 weeks old now. Very mixed parentage which is making it very difficult to figure out what's what. Father cockerel was Cream Legbar, same for all 5 chicks. Mother hens were cuckoo maran, bluebelle, black rock, buff sussex. I...
Thanks drumstick. Yes, you're right the foxes can be a nuisance. The wildlife owns the streets here at night in our rural village so we will make the coop as secure as possible. Also have lots of badgers which can be a nuisance but thankfully they can't get over gates and fences - fingers crossed!
Hello. Just a quick introduction before I launch in with all my questions!
Fairly new to chicken keeping having only had a small mixed adult flock several years back until we had to move house. We have this year hatched ourselves 5 chicks at home in an incubator and are excitedly watching the...
