My cutie, friendly babies are being introduced to their new home with my other 12 Muscovies! They were raised separately until a few days ago but have been around each other. I raised the 4 of them myself from under a momma. They are all getting along just fine besides the usual status behavior...
Had a similar problem. As soon as you see one 'gasping' separate her right away!!! Not sure what it was but no other hens had the same problem. If you also watch the other birds pecking at one and chasing her away separate that one as well. The chickens know something is wrong. It looked like an...
3 healthy ducklings so far! One more is pipping and 2 are active inside the egg still. All a bit late but I am so happy my first batch is going pretty darn smoothly!
Sad to say little chick did not make it. I did my very best but it wasn't meant to be. I still have 7 eggs under my muscovy and it is day 37 So I hope they hatch soon.
It is day 37 of my Muscovy sitting her her nest and there is no sign of peeping but I know they are still alive. Anyone had experiences with very late hatches? Maybe because it's cooler this time of year? Been between 0-10 Celsius over the hatch cycle with an average of 5 Celsius.
It seems within the last 5 or so hours after I took the picture of the chick, it did a big shift in the egg(it had been in the same position for about a week and a half). I am guessing this means that it is getting into position to hatch? This is my first time hatching eggs so I am hoping I am...
I also just checked on the muscovy eggs under mom. Unfortunately 7 were duds out of 15. I'm glad I checked because a couple were about to explode. That would have been a disaster.
Little chick is alive. I must say I am very proud of the makeshift incubator I made from a glass fish bowl! It keeps humidity and temp perfect and contains it with minimal fiddling. Ducklings will be any day now but I am having a hard time knowing where the chick egg is in development. I posted...
I am just worried that if the chick hatches before the ducklings the other eggs will get abandoned or The other way around. The duck eggs should hatch any day now. I will post a pic of the chick egg soon.
Where to start!? Long story short, my muscovies laid a batch of eggs and a muscovy and a chicken were sitting on them. About a week and a half or so the chicken got kicked off and I'm assuming snuck in 2 of her eggs on the batch after. Momma muscovy and eggs are fine. I didn't realize that the...
