I have found that breeds with large crests do not like ramps or roosts much. I think this is because their crests tend to make it hard for them to see thus creating depth perception problems making them uncomfortable being more than a few inches off the ground. It might help to trim or tape...
I am questioning whether my cockerel truly has wry tail or if it is just a behavior quark. He holds his tail off to the side most of the time a hair but, curves it more around older birds or hens he is trying to court. His spine is straight and he poses with his tail straight as well. The...
Can you have mottled or mottle like birds pop up in paint lines with Silkies? I have a pet quality black split to paint rooster that is paired with a paint hen and one of the chicks is black with a couple of white spots with pigment holes. Is this considered mottle, revers paint, or something...
What feed do you feed your birds? I feed Purina Flock Raiser and could not figure out why all my chicks' skin where yellow till I looked at the ingredient list. Purina puts high levels of xanthophyll in: Flock Raiser, Start & Grow (medicated and none medicated), and Layena. I found it takes...

So the chick I posted has grown and feathered out and I still cant tell if she is splash or white. She has about three or four very light gray feathers that are barely noticeable. I have included photos in natural light. Sorry for the picture over load.
My Silkies stay in a coop with covered run and are not allow to free range so hawk is out. She was defiantly their last nite as I carried her into the coop with her mate. We though that maybe an opossum did it but the lack of feathers and blood has us stumped.
We live on the back side of a gated school campus, so no neighbors. Also the dogs did not bark at all during the night. The only upset animals were the polish that sleep out side sometimes and her mate Gidgit.
This morning when I went to feed and let out my chickens I discovered Ms. Nugget my Silkie hen was missing. Here is the problem there were no feather, blood, holes or claw marks on or around the coop and run. The most confusing part is Nugget and her mate Gidgit were locked in the coop and...
