She has had a sneeze/wheeze off and on since I got her in Dec. The other hen she came with has not been effected.
She seems to do it more so when temps are below 74F and none at all if temps are closer to 80.
I have other posts about her issues early on, but for the most part she is active...
Just woke to some pretty awful smelling and odd looking poo from my girl that I am treating with tylan50 for resp issues.
Temp got down to 60s last night due to me shutting off most of my computer equipment. She is accustomed to about 70~75F
She has not really had gurgle or sneezes since...
Ah yes, I forgot to add about heat to one spot only so they can self regulate.
just today we had a warm snap and my 3 week olds got mad about the heat.
Sad part about my heat setup is it has no method of automatic temp regulation.
It got quite warm in there today. But my lil Buffs are hearty...
My year old Amber Link does this almost every time she lays an egg.
At first when I got her I freaked out a bit. Thought she was over heating etc.
But now she just does her thing and moves on like nothing happened.
Also heat being wrong (ie too cold) is a good cause for pasty butt as well.
May account for the lack of activity if it is not some illness.
Please someone correct me if I am wrong, but I read that starting the first week they need a heat source of 100F.
Dropping 5 degrees every week thereafter...
I am mostly unsure of what she was. I think she is closer to a red sex link but I suspect she was mixed with something.
That is a horrible way to discover your baby :-( I have no idea how I would have reacted if that was the way she went.
I also think I hear her once in a while and catch...
Ok I hope this is the final post on this :-)
I think she had a fungal AND bacteria issue.
The antibiotics did their work and then she slowly got worse again.
We lost power for 16 hours starting at 6:30am on the 1st.
It got super cold and from the research I did, I figured that when she got...
I wasn't sure if I should start a new topic or not. But since this is still the same bird and related issue I'll just add it here.
My red has been bouncing back and forth from recovering well, to suddenly regressing, then getting better again.
I lowered the dose of anti-biotic a bit and I...
Thanks you :-)
After losing the first one, these 2 are completely spoiled.
Goldie needed some special care after getting her. But she has bounced back well.
Not a quirk or symptom gets by me if I can help it now lol.
After nursing her back from the brink lastnight and staying awake 30+ hours...
They both pulled through well so far. Red bounced back very well about 8 to 12 hours after first dose.
I forgot I had fish mox and researched that and found I can use it for her. She is already doing very well.
She no longer harms the other hen. I guess she was grumpy while sick.
Amber was...
I applied 2 doses of VetRx to her since going to the store, She very rarly has the gargling sound and only sneezes or has that sound when she gets excited or nervous.
Sometimes I have no idea how people stay sane when they have chickens lol.
I accidentally discovered the Amber has bonded...
Just found a store within 10 mins drive that has and can get anything I need for these girls :-)
They also raise their own hens and roos.
That takes a huge load off my mind.
I got them some goodies today.
Yes, this is what I am most concerned with but yet most confused about doing.
After reading sad stories of this exact scenario, it has me a bit on edge and really trying to find the right way to get ahead of any potential secondary issue.
I really appreciate all the replies. Very informative and helps put me at ease a bit.
My last reply may have sounded too short and like I didn't read a suggestion now that I look back on it.
I have been pretty tired and such watching over her and then her sister had a slight egg bind issue which...
The story behind them is very long and I posted it in the intro section.
It was quite hard enough to write it, I imagine it can be a hard one to read. It likely will pull on your heart.
My fallen angel Henrietta: approx 4 years old here.
My 2 new angels:
Becky: 8 months old about.
and...
I have only had my 2 girls for 4 days now and they already tell me when it is bed time.
I also have one that climbs all over me for 2 hours while she is leading up to laying an egg.
I have figured out that she wants me to "adjust" her box for her each time lol
