    Whining 5 week Polish Chick

Sorry for the delay in responses guys! I posted in another group and they thought the chick was choking. He died that evening. The next morning I had 3 more chicks with the same signs. I'm assuming it's a virus. Today I was able to track down some Tylan so I'll be administering that tonight when...

    Whining 5 week Polish Chick

Hey Guys! Hoping someone can offer some advice on a diagnosis. I had bought a batch of Polish chicks 5 weeks ago from an individual. Several of them died without any reason and seemed to stop growing at a young age, very stunted. Out of the 18 I bought, I only have 10 healthy ones left, 3 are...

    Silkie thread!

Thanks! I traded two pullets that were getting on my nerves. They were someone's neighbors first attempt at hatching. I guessed they were either poor quality silkies or not purebred. They are super sweet though.

    Silkie Gender

Roada Red, thank you for your suggestions! I have done that with my other chickens! It is such a simple and cost effective way to tell them apart. I just hadn't had the chance to do it yet, but I'll try tonight. :)

    Silkie Gender

Here are a few more pictures now that they are in my possession. They are some of the sweetest little birds! Neither one seems to act overly rooster-y. I'm excited to see how they act once they settle in!

Have you ever seen an egg laid?

Today we cleaned out the coop in the later afternoon, one of my Cukoo Maran's kept getting under foot. I picked her up and plopped her on the ground. A minute later my husband asked what was wrong with her. She was walking around oddly and her vent was oddly shaped and drippy. Then a second...

Have you ever seen an egg laid?

I have 12 mature hens and 4 of them are Australorps. 3 out of those 4 sing THE LOUDEST egg song I have ever heard! It goes on and on after they lay their eggs! I have one Barred Rock that sings when she sees another egg in the box. I commonly sit in the coop and watch them lay! So many...

    Sneezing Hen and shell-less eggs!

Great! That was my thought too after checking out the links you provided for me. I bathed her, my other Cochin who had some dried stuff on her fluffy butt and their hatch mate a partridge Cochin who sleeps on the floor and had matted feathers. Right after baths and blow drying they all within...

    Sneezing Hen and shell-less eggs!

Thank you so much for your response! I had an out of town conference today and didn't have much time. When I got home this evening I sat out in the coop for awhile and she never made a suspicious peep! Totally normal behavior. I do still have the Buff Cochin with diarrhea but other than that...

    Sneezing Hen and shell-less eggs!

I don't have pictures. No discharge or any other outward signs of illness. Normal activity level in both birds, both eating, drinking, free ranging etc. I haven't worked them since I've had them. About 6 weeks. The Cochin was hatched in early July and the Cukoo was hatched in May. They eat a...

    Sneezing Hen and shell-less eggs!

Howdy!! I have a Cukoo Maran who I heard sneeze twice tonight and cough. She is at point of lay along with a few other girls. Two of the past three nights I have had two shell-less eggs on the coop floor. The Maran was roosted though. I also have a buff Cochin who has had diarrhea the past few...
