sorry for posting here so much! just wanna document the progress :)
cleaned the chook again and no maggots came off in the water and i couldn’t see any on her, obviously more may still hatch and there could still be some tiny ones under her skin but the area looks pretty closed up now so i’m...
another update: the electrolyte water seems to have made the chooks poop more normal, hopefully when the flystrike heals the diarrhoea will go away
i’ve placed a mosquito net over her pen to prevent anymore flies landing on her
done some googling and it seems iodine is similar to betadine so will continue to use that :) the instructions on the bottle say it prevents infections etc
yesterday i soaked and washed the area with saline water and used tweezers to remove any visible maggots but know that i missed some that crawled back into the skin (yuck)
yes i can probably find some antibiotic cream but if not will iodine do the trick? i’m nervous about touching the area as...
yes she is eating :) i’m about to go down and check her but yesterday i didn’t feel any bloat, just a very sharp chest bone as i assume she hasn’t been absorbing any nutrients
i’ll try get some buttermilk today if not then tomorrow
thank you so so much for your help
here are some pictures
the green longish things are what i think may be maggots, i zoomed in on what may be fly eggs but now that i look closer i could be wrong?
as you can see she’s in pretty rough shape, the wound looks almost necrotic :/
(the yellow on her is iodine)
thank you so much!! will post some pics asap
unfortunately i have found dead maggots and fly eggs in her poop- it’s basically just water and some white/yellow stuff :( it’s not looking good at all
it’s warm here but not wet and they live in a large pen with a house with hay that is changed...

have been away for a month and come home to a chicken with flystrike and maggots and diarrhoea (had house sitters looking after them)
i have removed all the maggots visible and sprayed the wound with iodine and placed her in confinement
she also has diarrhoea and i assume that that is...
thanks for your help-she was devouring sweet potato yesterday! she is now eating bread soaked in water, but has begun to pant. she has water but does not drink unless i put her beak in the water. i checked for stuck egg, there isnt one. i am a bit worried as we will be leaving the house soon and...
we don't have one nearby-we live right in the country. i have given her a crust with vegemite (a food spread full of vitamin b) and she seemed to like the budgies millet seed so i sprinkled that onto the vegemite bread. what other food could i give her that has lots of vitamins in it?
thanks...
Whats wrong with my chicken?? She has a drooped tail and cant stand or walk. She sometimes sits back on her 'haunches' and she shuffles around a bit. i think she might need some b vitamins, so gave her a few Kellogs cocoa pops as they are meant to be high in the b vitamin. she is drinking. when...
