The chick looks about like my Crested cream legbar chicks except no leg feathers. Perhaps you got a mixed breed chick? Also a recent pic of chicks at 3-1/2 months old.
I am using a reptile heat lamp. It emits no light, which I think is good. I keep a grow light near them. The light turns on at sunrise and off at sunset. I plugged my heat lamp into my plant heater pad temp regulator at the desired temperature. It is working great!
Their brooder is a medium...
Speaking of hard boiled eggs, I have found that steaming fresh eggs over boiling water helps the eggs to peel easier. I’m not sure why that works, but it does. I placed my eggs in a basket above boiling water and let the water boil a few minutes. After I turn off the burner, I’ll leave the...
I usually spend 30 minutes a day with them on work days. They are just waking up when I leave for work at 7:30, and are already in the roost by the time I get home at 4:30. The sunsets around 415 now. On the weekends I spend at least one or two hours with them cleaning up and watching them.
My two livestock guardians and the mutt. Falcor, who is now 120# and 4 yo, and Sequoia at 90# is 3 yo. My LGDs are not guardian trained so the chickens are now confined to the garden. Our Mutt is 1 yo.
Yes. I put my new coop on blocks and it has a feature to close the roost door at night. Also, my livestock guardian dogs are in the yard most of the time.
I’m back with a new flock of 4 hens. My last flock was killed by raccoons and recently got new pullets. Wow. Been missing my peeps. We’re still working on names.
I got my chicks at about 1.5 to 2 weeks old, but I noticed it shortly after I got them home. Don't remember how long it was. I gave each affected bird one drop of vitamins twice a day.
The name of the vitamin I bought was Poly-vi-sol by Enfamil. I had to ask the pharmasist to order them because I couldn't find ones that were iron free. You don't have to mix anything. Just give them one drop each. The vitamins come with a dropper in the package.

Yea, this waiting about the chicken's sex is hard. We interact with our 6 chickens everyday. They all come to me when I let them out of the coop after work. They know I usually have some kind of treat. The chick, Spot, is my son's chick. My friends have meat chickens and we may have to cull a...
Could you help with these two chicks?
They are almost 3 months old. I was thinking they were both hens until recently. The chicken to the left of Spot (black and white chick) is Turq, he's a crowing every day so he is a roo.
This is Spot, the white and black chick. All my chicks are about 3 months old or a little less.
Hen or rooster? The chicken to the left is Turq. He crows all the time so I know he's a roo.
This is Big Girl. But is she? Beginning to think she is a he. These two were beak to beak a few days...
My chicks are now 12 weeks old, more or less. I successfully treated my chicks weak legs and don't really know which two they were. One of my chickens lays down a lot more than the others, so she may be one of the chicks I treated with baby vitamins. I gave the vitamins to them for two weeks...
That is an awesome way to call the chicks! I like it!
The day I got my chicks at a private home, she had all these chickens trying to get into the garage when she opened it. She grabbed a handful of scratch and threw it in the bushes and away all the chickens flew! It was very funny.
Good advise on practical matters. Another food I would like to give my chickens is scratch, for a treat. Is 2 months old to soon for whole grains? I always have grit available for them. Their main food is chick starter/grower crumbles.
