I have mulch and they love it especially when it rains and it's all nice when they dig deep they will lay in the sun and sleep for hours! But yet again every chicken is different I use to have one who just liked to sleep in the grass and on concrete to sun bath.

I have a older hen too named big red. She was doing the same thing. However I noticed she was pulling them out around her neck area from being inside during winter bored.
I wouldn't be too concerned then. Obviously she gets plenty of nutrition! I know how you feel it can be scary I have a hen who is doing the same thing she is out all the time eats plenty and doesn't lay.
If she has a fluffy butt it's normal to have a little bit of poop on it. like the other person said soak her butt in warm water to get it off so she doesn't have problems with pooping or laying Hope this helped
I would bring her maybe into your house or garage with a heater to see if that helps her. Sorry don't know too much about frostbite maybe try researching it to see how to help it.

Does it feel like she has a egg does she feel big underneath? If it feels normal meaning not big or feeling like something is in their just give her some time. I had this happen a couple times just make sure she gets outside a lot and has bugs to eat
If you think your 4 year old would be careful it should be just fine I let my 4 year old brother hold them he was careful just made sure to keep a eye on him. I would also say around a coulpe weeks should be fine for the kids to handle them.
Also on the outside age part I would say around 7-8...
You should separate her for a little while to see if that helps maybe her getting bullied is making her feel down. Also I had a egg bound chicken before but was to late to act on her. I would put her in your sink with warm water and see if that helps. Do that a couple times and put her in a warm...
If you have flies you could get this fly trap from places like TSC. It traps the flys in if you are worried about that. I have a lot of flies where I live in the summer and it helps alot
