Yeah, tell me about it!! I bought 24 straight run Buff Orpingtons.. so I knew the potential was there for a lot of males, but I was ok with that, as we wanted to process them. I'm not 100% sure I got all of them either. Seems some are later to mature, or maybe they are just hens...
Hi all... I've been reading a lot on the forums and on the internet in general.. I just processed 11 roosters to reduce some chaos in my flock. What a mess it was before hand. My poor hens... but I am happy to say things are much quieter now. I kept 1 Buff Orpington, 4 months and 1 Silkie...
My roosts are pretty high up in the coop.. how high from the ceiling do they need to be? And my roosts are ALONG the walls... :idunno As for wind, we get weather from all directions, especially in the winter... how can I possibly do this? I've wondered about keeping weather out, while still...
Um, I'm not sure I can tell... Pointy hackle feathers?
Hmm, yes, that would be an option, but I don't have anyone banded. I need to do that first... I wish I had another place to put them, once I figure out who is who..
I'm not sure I can tell.. pointy hackle feathers?
Well, I would, but I'm not sure it would help me much. I don't have any of them banded, so I don't know who is who. I knew I should have done that when they were little. Or I suppose I could do it now... that might be fun... lol
Can someone please tell me what age the pullets start developing red combs and wattles? I have 24 straight run, and I need to cull some of my cockerels, but I'm afraid I'll grab pullets too.
Thank you! Did you see my other post? Asking about processing BOs for meat? If not, your post couldn't have come at a better time. I'm having some issues with my roosters ganging up on the hens. I'm tired of it. I know they are just doing what roosters do, but I have too many. It's time to...
Yes, my oldest BO group was hatched April 3rd.. and the second group, 1 month later. So... I need to go take a good hard look at my flock. And make some preparations.
Thank you... Yes, I am on board with you. I just needed to get a more experienced opinion. My next problem comes because I am unsure who all is a rooster. I don't want to cull hens. Like I said, some of the older ones, are quite obvious, but the younger ones aren't... but at the same time...
I have 24 straight run BOs. I have a LOT of roosters. They are going to freezer camp. One of my questions is, how old should I allow them to get before we cull? I have 2 different age groups and the older ones are definitely maturing. They are always after the hens... (my hens will be SO...
Thank you so much... I truly love this site, but I really wish there were some better ways to obtain information for things like this. I click the little icon and I get the video, /video code, but nothing else. I didn't know how to go about it.
Thank you again, very much. :bow
