Hi! The water pump runs for short durations and takes me about six times of holding the button down until the second beep to get the water to the incubator.
Only time it wouldn't was when the hose got a hole. And that time the hose curled up in the jar too far and sucked air.
Were you able to...
Thanks for keeping us posted. In the states there are laws being passed about medications for animals. I understand they don't want the food supply to have so much antibiotics given leading to super bugs that make the antibiotics ineffective, but it takes a toll on us little guys who just need...
I have a Rio Grande hen named Cheeky who went through similar events as you are now going through. She was at a local feed store with her cheeks so swollen her eyes were nearly closed and she was sneezing terribly. They didn't want to do anything to help her so I took her home and put her in a...
Here is a six month old EE named "Black Beard".
"Diablo" and his molting polish girl "Pauline". Someone dropped him off at a feed store as a chick so I don't know what his breed is. At first I thought he was a polish but his earlobes are not white so maybe a crevecoeur or a mix of some kind???

This winter I had a turkey hen with the same sinus issue. After using Tylan powder in the water the swelling went away but returned after a week. Then I did the Tylan 50 shots under the skin, switching injection sites each time from one breast to the other. She seemed all healed...
Both the wanting to perch and balance theories make sense. They have been using the little bamboo perch I put in their night house that is also about two foot off the ground. So if they go to perch on a ledge, such as the water trough, they could loose balance, slip and fall in.
To be on the...
It started with my first hatch around eitht or so years ago. I had a Narragansett hen who hatched a clutch. They were only a couple of days old when I found one drowned in a water bowl with two-inches of water and maybe four-inch side walls. I thought it was a fluke until a couple of days later...
Great list!

Wow. What a week. You all were so right about them coming back. Cuckoo Roo was taken last Monday. Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m. we heard a pack of coyotes yapping. It sounded like they were in the neighbors horse pen just a couple hundred feet from us. We grabbed the big mag light and the...
He thanks you for the complements! If not a good home, a couple of nice dusky hens would be nice for him. I just haven't a clue on anyone raising them in my area.
Yes. It is scary. Luckily, so far I've been home and been able to quickly wrap the incubator in blankets then run for the generator. It usually only about 15 minutes to get in place, fueled and going. The temp stays in the upper 90's having the extra insulation of the blankets.
I ended up with a gray Indian runner drake from a batch of mixed ducklings from Holderreads back in 2009. He is a gorgeous boy and has had beautiful ducklings with my gray hen. As much as I really enjoy him, he doesn't fit into my breeding scheme. I've not seen any dusky runners advertised so I...
It is the season! It's always funny to see people say runners are not naturally broody! They are excellent, protective mothers. I had one fly over a five foot fence when her ducklings squeezed through to the other side. I wish we were closer, I would happily donate a drake so Blue would have a...
Black Jack and his three Queens are standard size white crested black polish. He is not related to the hens. Black Jack and the girls produced good quality hatching eggs last year. The batch of eggs I hatched were 100% fertile. The chicks had good top hats and very healthy.
Starting bid is $45...
Thanks everyone. Cuckoo Roo was very pretty, ate out of my hand, was good to the girls, and enjoyed the occasional pet.
Rockin' Reds mentioned the coyote coming back and bobbi-j mentioned gun. Sounds like the little .22 rifle needs to come out of the safe today and be ready for his return. It's...
Today at 8:15 my husband and I were sitting in the house sipping coffee and chatting. We could see the chickens happily pecking and scratching around out in the pasture just 50 feet away from the house. It was so peaceful and quite. The next thing I know my husband drops his coffee and runs out...
